My washer is throwing a hissy fit and I really need your help on this one.

On the right side of the control panel there are two main control boards, but in reality there are a total of four for the whole control board.
So which one do I replace?

Here's the problem, for years the off/stop button has not work, but the machine still functions, but when steam from the hot water tends to short the board out when used.
I'm ready to replace the board(s) but not sure which one to replace.

Larry, back in the early '80s I used to have a TOL Whirlpool 9800 TL washer with matching dryer, both with touch pad electronic control boards. I had the same problem as you are experiencing, but mostly during humid days.

What I learned to do to solve the problem was to leave the washer turned on continiously. What I did every time was to turn on the washer back again after taking out the clean wash from the last load of the day, and immediately pressed the Hold button before the cycle started, and let the washer forever turned on, 24/7. I this way, the machine was permanently on, either washing or in "Hold". When I needed to use the washer I just turned the control off and immediately on again and chose the desired cycle and options. Electronics don't get humid when turned on. The washer worked perfectly for years with this trick. I even let the washer on while away for vacations...

I hope this helps.

John and Emilio,

Thanks for the quick response!

Right know thew washer is working fine without the stop button.
Stop button never shut the machine off once it is turned on.
At the time when the trouble began, I just hit per say *regular wash* or any other cycle, then hit start,
the machine just shut off completely. Even when I do the diagnostic test, I hit any cycle then hit start,
the machine will shut off.

I just want to get this resolved soon.

Got the same machine, off button has not worked for years either. Other than that no problem, I use HOT water all the time and never had a problem with it affecting the panel(s).

I solved the "OFF" problem with an X10 controller. If I really want to stop the machine I use it to power it down. Mine is built-in to a alcove in my laundry room so I can't easily get to the plug. Emilio, your suggestion is not an option on this machine. If you push the "hold" button it will time out after about 15 minutes and turn off.
