I just found these over the weekend while going to second hand stores. The first is a box with two of the scent bottles for a Kenmore dryer. The one bottle is empty, but the other still has some scent in it. Don't we all just love the Scent of Kenmore. :)

The fine print under her signature says she is "Director Home Economics Laboratory." I've never heard of her. Perhaps Sears was jealous of Westinghouse having Betty Furness, and wanted a spokeswoman of their own?

Very cool, how awesome to find the scent bottles especially!

I think Jean Shaw was just what her title says... the home economics "laboratory" was at Sears, presumably they tested the kitchen appliances. My owners manuals for Kenmore ranges of the period are also "signed" by her. With a photograph of her and women baking in a model kitchen.

I do not know for sure but the speculation of friends of my parents when I was a kid was that she was a fictional person that Sears invented to be the face of Sears home economics department, Wasn't Betty Crocker also an invented person, Although I did hear she went stir crazy LOL.
