Hello Everyone, It has been awhile since I last posted. I have been busy playing with my newly outfitted 1963 Frigidaire Imperial. Many thanks to Bud, Atlanta. I now have time to devote to a new project. I have a Kenmore Limited Edition model 110.82294800 serial # C62811883. It leaks. Agitates but will not spin or only very very slow. After I replaced the main tub seal it still leaked. It looks like the water is leaking onto the table then to the floor. It was suggested by other AW members that my shaft seals and possibly the drive shaft bearings need replacing. I am up for the task but finding shaft seal and bearing kit(s) is proving problematic, maybe because I don't have the proper part numbers and a good source. I have watched YouTube videos and downloaded some instructions. If I can remove a Frigidaire transmission I feel maybe OK confident that I can do this. So I need help in finding a source and part numbers for shaft seals and bearings. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Losangeles

The center post bearing kit is fsp part# 285134 and I would definitely replace the basket drive as well. The basket drive should be part number 285897. It’s quite a job but it can be done and a bearing installation tool is necessary. If the agitator shaft is scored in the seal area it should be replaced as well.

If it’s leaking onto the baseplate first then the tub seal is probably still leaking or there is a tub leak either in the tub or one of the tub fittings. If the center bearing seal or agitator shaft seal is leaking water will be coming from the center on top of the gearcase.

Your machine was manufactured in the 28th week of either 1976 or 1986 per the serial number.

These belt-drive machines went out of production circa 1986.  Many parts are long out-of-production via WP so the only sources for those items are new old-stock that long-time servicers may have on-hand, or new old-stock or used via collectors.

This machine was built in 1986, this model was not built in the 70s, the model # also confirms that it came out around 1982.

 

These were great washers and dryers when they came out, we have a pair in black.

 

As far as the leak goes you just have to tear into it and see how much you have to do, as Repairguy mentioned it is likley to be a big job, parts can be found fairly easily except for a replacement outer tub [ if needed ] but you may put in considerable work and expense to do it right.

A big thank you to Repairguy, DaDoEs, and Combo-52 for the helpful informatio. I have the machine torn down to the outer tub and drive shaft. I have yet to pull the transmission. That is next. I filled the outer tub with water to just below the lower shaft seal. No leaking. Then I filled the tub to about 2 inches above the lower seal. This when the leak started. So I am guessing that that the shaft seals are bad and need replacing. When I move the to of the agitator shaft back and forth, there is a grinding feel to the movement. Further the top of the agitator shaft moves about a good quarter inch when pulled straight up. I don't think it is supposed to do this. This why I think the bearings may also be bad as well. Anyway I am looking for upper and lower shaft seals and shaft bearings. I am going to start there and see what gives. Any advice is greatly appreciated. This will be the most complicated and labor intensive job that I have taken on thus far. If anyone out there has these part I am willing to pay for them and postage.

The 285134 kit includes the center post bearings and seals. Again you will need the special tool to install the bearings. The agitator shaft movement up and down is probably normal. If the machine has had trouble starting to agitate the agitator spring could be broken. Now we’re talking about going into the gear case. I would lay the machine carefully on it’s front on a blanket for protection and see if any water comes out of the small hole on top the gear case. If so you need a gear case or that one will have to be rebuilt. Again all of this is a big project and it all needs to be done correctly to get the maximum life from new bearings/seals, basket drive, gear case, etc. if you are able to complete all of this you will have a heck of a washer that will serve you well for many years. Thank you Melvin. I have a gear case/transmission with center post and agitator shaft from another Kenmore bought from a used appliance/repair dealer. And I have laid the machine down on it's front and yes there was water coming from somewhere, I just could not see where. If there is information on this site on how to undertake this job, where is it and how do I access it? Thanks again for your help.
