Kenmore Motor

Recently my Kenmore has start spinng slow and sometomes need a little push to get spinning. I have tightened the belt and that has help some. I was told that the motor may be getting weak. Does any body know were I can get the motor part#327822 modelnumber of washer is 110 72784100

KM BELT DRIVE WASHER MOTOR

Motors for these are still easy to find, but if it agitates normally it is not a bad motor. In fact it is almost impossible to be a motor problem that you are describing. You need to find someone that is familiar with working on this type of washer to diagnose the problem. You can bring the whole machine to our shop in Beltsville Md if you like.

Of course John is completely correct, but isn't this the machine that we determined had a bad motor previously as it was cutting out or over-heating, or wasn't starting up on its own? Maybe I've got that mixed up with another of your machines.

A weak spin with a properly tightened belt (assuming all else is working fine) is likely a basket drive issue, but let us know if there are any other issues with the motor first.

There are lots of these motors out there, even some easily accessible used ones on eBay.

Slow starting

I ad the same problem with my 1955 Kenmore,I replaced the starting capacitor in the can on the side of the motor,she starts so fast It will sometimes squeak the belt,Goog Luck Bobby

Hotpoint motor

My hotpoint started to spin very slowly and would need a push to get it to go. That turned out to be a Bad capacitor. Much cheeper than a new motor,

Gordon, my Whirlpool that I saved fom the trash has the bad motor. It would go for awhile then the motor locked. When it stated back up it gets a hot smell.

The Kenmore had the spining problem quit a while back & you told how to tighten the belt and it fixed the problem until recently. I did retighten the belt and sometimes it needs a little push to start spinning. Do you think it could be the capacitor? The washer seemd to be agitating properly.

KM BELT DRIVE WASHER MOTOR CAPACTORS

The start capacitors that are used on some US style split phase washer motors are in series with the start winding. Which is switched off by the centrical switch when the motor reaches 2/3s of it full speed. So these capacitors are only used to give the motor an extra kick apron the initial start, they have nothing to do with keeping the motor running smoothly under heavy loads. Most WP & KM BD washers did not use a motor start capactor at all.

 

Many european washers and even dryer motors are [ permanent split capacitor] type motors, these have a capacitor that is in the circuit in series with a phase winding all the time. When these capacitors go bad the motor may or may not run or it may run but not have as much power as it should under load.

Today a did a few load of bedding and I noticed that on the third load of 4 the washer was starting to slow down on the agitation. The first load went fine, the second I had to give it a little push after the wash to spin. So I moved it out of service and hooked up the Frigidaire.
