Kenmore & Whirlpool Clutch Question~

Ok guys, I consider myself an acomplished repairman on about anything mentioned on this website as far as washer and dryers are concerned but I have a question about a diect Drive Whirpool Washer. My machine that I'm working on for a customer will wash just fine and pump out just fine. But it will not spin unless I make it begin to spin by hand and then it will seem to catch and spin slowly till spin cycle is over. But if I tilt the machine over almost turning it over onto it's front, it will then start to spin at it's normal speed. Keep in mind that the coupler between the trannie and moror is perfect and there are no restrictions anywhere. how in the heck can one take off the clutch/brake system on this machine to repalce or repair it? It is not connected to transmission as you already know. I have rarely run into this problem but this machine is pretty new and my buddy wants it fixed. Any help will be appreciated here.

The clutch sits on top of the tranny. Sounds like the clutch ring shoes are worn, which would cause a slow lazy spin. Replace the clutch assy. I'm sure you know how to drop the tranny.

Does the tub

Spin freely if you try and rotate it with the power off?

It could be the ears on the top of the spin tube.
