Ralph, it is a pain in the butt to use in larger rooms. But it is good to use for simple touching up in between deep cleanings.

when i get the legend mk2 running, from your experiences, which will be the better vac, heritage mk 1 or legend mk 2?

I have a G4, I love the results with the shampooer, but it is a pain to use

Kirbys were/are nearly indestructable. Our family Kirby my parents purchased in 1951 was still running 35 years later when it was traded for a Hoover which lasted 5 years. Other names I remember being tough machines were Filter Queen, Rainbow, and Compaq (before it became the name of a computer)

Compaq is actually spelled compact. Made by the interstate engineering company.

Compact became Tristar vacuums in the 80s and is still made today.

Remanufactured Kirbys

That Kirby D80 is gorgeous.
Is the remanufacturing (presumed at Kirby's factory) available to anyone? Or do you have to prove you are the original owner?

You can get a discount if your the original owner with proof. On a vac that old it's a biiiig discount.

My d80 wasnt restored by Kirby. I had it all done at a local vacuum shop.

Beautiful job for a local shop. I didn't think that sort of talent was out there anymore.

Was aware of the difference in the spelling of Compact Vacuums vs. Compaq computers. ) Regardless, the Compact cannister was a real workhorse and was much quieter than most other vacuums at the time. On memory I have from the '50s is the smell of cloth vacuum bags being emptied. It was sort of the same smell as mohair upholstery in cars in that era.

Here is mine I got new in box in January. I just got new bearings in it as they were dried out and really started to scream.
