Help Support :

Kirbys were/are nearly indestructable. Our family Kirby my parents purchased in 1951 was still running 35 years later when it was traded for a Hoover which lasted 5 years. Other names I remember being tough machines were Filter Queen, Rainbow, and Compaq (before it became the name of a computer)

Compaq is actually spelled compact. Made by the interstate engineering company.

Compact became Tristar vacuums in the 80s and is still made today.

You can get a discount if your the original owner with proof. On a vac that old it's a biiiig discount.

My d80 wasnt restored by Kirby. I had it all done at a local vacuum shop.

Was aware of the difference in the spelling of Compact Vacuums vs. Compaq computers. :o) Regardless, the Compact cannister was a real workhorse and was much quieter than most other vacuums at the time. On memory I have from the '50s is the smell of cloth vacuum bags being emptied. It was sort of the same smell as mohair upholstery in cars in that era.
