Hi,

My pushbuttons don't work anymore. Any ideas on getting a new or refurbed switch? Don't want to spend on a new and flimsy machine.

There are some numbers printed on the back of the program switch. If you let me know what they are, I probably have a switch for you!

Are The Buttons Stuck ?

Or is the switch bad electrically ?

 

If the buttons are getting stuck spray electrical-safe lubricant into every crack and crevice of the switch and then work the buttons until the switch loosens up. These switches used to get balky because users only ever used one cycle all the time [ usually normal ] and the switch would get a little worn.

The numbers are: L1 D241510 on left end of switch
On right end the numbers are 2998AF 72 3983 M

I'll try spraying the switches elec safe lubricant as you advise Combo52. I'd wondered about that. Have to get some lube. Is WD 40 safe?

No, WD-40 is not a good lubricant.

Got some elec safe lube spray and did as you said. Really worked it in. Got the machine to run! Don't think it's totally brand new switch wise but it ran the cycle. I'm wondering if I need to also lube the switch on the end where the cam pushes into it when the door handle is pushed closed. I think I'd do well to buy the online manual for this machine. Thanks so much man. I was looking at a $1000 Miele to replace it.

As John pointed out, people usually select the same cycle and that will cause wear on the contacts on the program switch. And he will tell you that one question you have to ask a customer is if they select a different cycle, does the machine perform properly. It usually does. For some reason, the 20 series had this problem more so than earlier or later models from what I could see.
See how cleaning it works for you. John certainly knows his stuff and I agree whole heartedly on this one!

So does this mean the frequently used cycle button may be worn out by the habitual use and the whole unit require replacing? So far, after my first load, I've done some "dummy" starts using that button and it's been working.

I bought the online manual for the Patrician and am impressed by the detail and going back to a time when a mfg trusted you to work on your machine and DID NOT expect their product to break and need replacement, as in today's world.

I'd like to keep you both posted on my machine's progress or continuing life. I am curious about what filters I need to replace, if any, or if they just need cleaning.
