I have a Kitchen Aid Energy Saver V Superba by Hobart. The model number on the inside tag is KDS20. The dishwasher turns on the lights so I know there is power. After awhile the heating element gets hot. I do not hear any water, nor will the cycle move forward. I would like to keep this especially after reading other posts about how much of a workhourse this is. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Water.

First, check to make sure it's getting water. The water line may be blocked. The water fill valve may be clogged with sediment from your plumbing, the solenoid in the valve may be bad, or the solenoid may not be getting power.

The fill for the DW is usually tapped from the sink's hot water line. Start there and see where it goes.

Definitely worth keeping the machine,
Dave

Yes, check the solenoid first. If it's working, then your problem could be in the rapid advance timer. I have a KDS 20 that's doing the opposite -- it won't drain, and the solenoid is good. That pretty much means the solenoid isn't getting the message the timer is (presumably) sending.

If you end up with a timer issue, the panel is a little squirrely in how it comes apart in order to get to the timer, but once you do, check the connections of the wires that lead to the fill valve solenoid. I've been advised by a couple of people here with experience that it's probably something simple like that, but haven't yet gone back to mine. It's not my daily driver so for the time being, it sits.
