Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Kevin I think those dishes in the Dining Room you are seeing are the Redwing Capistrano pattern.

Mike you are right, if I have the basement laundry shoot trap door open downstairs, which is right near the WCI-58 Frigidaire washer, you can get a wet slimy dishcloth right on top of your head, I speak from experience!

Steve when we moved in I had all the washers in storage from having to sell my old house. After I fixed up the basement I started moving the machines in slowly but surely. By now most of our neighbors have seen my collection so they know what to expect anyway.

Sprialactivator, that Wood Knife block was painted pink.

Robert I just noticed while looking at your pictures again that you have a second facuet on the beautiful kitchen sink. Is that for some type of filtered water, and if you don't mind my asking what brand did you go with and are you happy with it? Terry

Terry, that is a tap water filter. While we have pretty good water here in the city and the city softens it for us long before it reaches our house, I do notice a slight difference in the taste of the filtered water. Its a GE one cartridge water system, I got it at Home Depot.

Steve, yes my '56 Frigidaire dishwasher is hooked up and running between the Range and the Refrigerator. I ran pipes in the basement underneath to install it there. I love having two dishwashers in the kitchen.

In theory they never have to be emptied...
One fills with dirty while the other is emptied of clean crockery.

Now, if the top rack in most machies came out as easily as the bottom rack, we could have a 24" cabinet to store them in and do the same thing.... pull cleans right out of the rack and add the dirties to a second set of racks in the machine.

I suppose for my next trick I will have to learn how to solder copper pipe, so I can have nifty set-up as yours, Robert :-) [Electrical work and gas-pipe no prob. don't like water and drain too much.]

Your kitchen and dining room

Robert,
I just finished going through your photos and reading all the great comments. What can I add? Abolutely a flawless step back into time espically reminiscent of our childhoods. Those pics and the story of how you found things and then installed them should be in a magazine for even more people too see.

The pics people post here give a wonderful bird's eye view into the lives of the folks who post here and insight into their tastes and interests.

Thanks for sharing and I hope that when I am on a layover in Minneapolis that I can visit sometime to see the real thing in person.

Whoo Hoo!

What a wonderful job! You two must have really thought it out! Being the picky ass that I am about mixing color, it looks great! Very inspiring!

ALL SMILES!

Wow Robert!

Aside from the fact that everyone has said just about everything already I just want to add that seeing your kitchen just makes me smile with every pic! You've done an amazing job! - I hope people appreciiate it as much as we do! I'd LOVE to prepare a meal in there - so cheery and fun! If I'm ever in your neck of the woods I'd love to see your house!

I have that same blender and I love it!

It makes me look forward to moving out of my current apt wher I literally had 6" of counter space between the small bar sink and the fridge. Manhattan studios can be really rediculous but I was grateful to even have this much! I'm moving to Queens with my sister where I'll actually have a kitchen again and can display my jadeite and other vintage stuff that I had no room for lately! - plus I feel like I can start to collect again!

Thanks for your unending inspiration both with creating this site for us and your own enthusiasm which shows in all you do!

All the best!
Matthew

Hi Matthew, Do you have a large collection of Jadite. I have some of the pieces myself and just love the color. I know that you will be happy to be able to use and display it again. Good luck on the move. Terry

Jadeite and Queens

somehow - no matter what we're talkking about - these two words always go very well together!

tlee618 - I don't have a very large jadeite collection as of yet - a few nice pieces and fun finds but I'm not about to go spend a ton of money on a saucer or a chili bowl. This I believe is all to blame on dear old MARTHA STEWART who, since featuring it, made the prices insane. I too love the colour. I'll post a pic of my kitchen when I get home (away for the weekend right now). I prefer to collect the little odd pieces that you find at a flea market or garage sale that are still cheap and unexpected. Maybe eventually I'll spend some dough and get a proper service for four. Its just hard thinking you're going to spend almost $100/ a place setting and it really isn't even good china! Remember it was made for every day - oops I broke one - service and they were cheap - like Corelle today. For now I have a few mixing bowls, cereal and chili bowls and I DID buy a lot of the Jadeite 2000 - why not?!? Also Lechters was selling the reproduction stuff a few years back very cheap so I got a whole setting for four of that, which was great. I have a pink kitchen and a perfect space above the cabinets and below the ceiling where I display them - and unlike other jadeite collectors, I actually use mine! I love it! Do you collect as well?

Steve - we're looking in Astoria - its cute and convenient for both of us - me comuting too the city annd her for driving to Roslyn where she will be the new athletic trainer at Roslyn HS. Its also far more spacious and still pretty reasonale.
I'll fill you in more when i see you which hopefully wll be soon.

Matt

Hi Matt, Sure sounds like you are on your way to a nice collection. I have some of the reproductions as well. I am working on place-settings for 8 and just about have that complete. Thank heavens I started when it wasn't so expensive. It all started for me with a large swirl mixing bowl my mom had and always liked. I was able to find the other three bowls to make a complete set. You are so right, in its day it was very cheap, sold in the dime stores. I remember as a child not even liking it and felt sorry for those people who had it as I thought they couldn't afford a complete set of dishes. LOL Boy do times change. I have several of the Martha Stewart reproductions as well. I will look forward to seeing your collection. Don't have a digital camera here so can't post very easily. Terry

With a Kodak Hawkeye camera on Kodacolor X 127 film and Sylvania Blue Dot AG1B flashbulbs?
