Well, I put a little bit of the $5 "oops" paint I bought at VA paint company on the walls of the dining area...Benjamin Moore Semi gloss...to see what it would look like. It's a bit bluer than I thought it would be, but I think it will look pretty neat, especially since I'm going for a retro-50's look to the kitchen. The paint is stopped at the top edge because there will be a piece of trim at the top edge. Speaking of trim, it will be painted the same color gray as the HVAC vents that I painted up. The ceiling will be white. I was also thinking about stenciling some retro 50's designs onto the walls, like some stars, or other "space-age" pattern.

It's been a lot of work, and I'm glad it's coming into the homestretch!

I've stripped the walls of painted-over wallpaper & cleaned them.

then REMOVED a wall between the kitchen & dining room,

re-arranged the cabinets and appliance locations,

completely re-wired by removing all the old cloth wiring, and re-installing 2 additional circuits using 12 ga wire,

installed soffett lighting above the cabinets, and around the old beam "stub" that remained from the removed wall,

Installed drywall in the gap where the wall came out of,

Put joint compound in all the damage spots, holes, and drywall cracks, sanded and sealed.

I will need to finish the painting, add the trim, and then re-finish the floors.

I am also thinking about putting up a tile backsplash around the range and cabinetry before it's all done!

I can't wait!!! my mid-century home is going to have a mid-century kitchen again!

Here's a picture comparing the paint colors. The silver that the air conditioner vent is painted is going to be the same color I'm going to paint the trim!

There is something very cool....

...about how that blue works with that recolored vent. I would think if the trim was repainted super white (it may be already and just not appear that way in your picture) it would really pop and give a great edge to the blue. Excellent.

Oh sorry just re-read...

my mistake about assuming the trim white. Please share a pic when you have it done. It we have not seen it here already, perhaps we can start a trend of showing off kitchens. I have a display case that I am trying to get ready for pics.
