I have a problem with this dishwasher I purchased a couple of years ago on Marketplace. It has worked great up until recently. The upper wash arm isn't turning or washing dishes at all. Bottom one is cleaning fine. I just don't have any idea what part to try and find. Ebay has a used motor for $50 but I don't know if that is what is needed to fix the problem. Help!

I think I have found one of the problems but I have no idea what to do about it. I opened dishwasher during wash cycle and the water doesn't even fill the bottom where the screen filter sits in the bottom. Any suggestions would be welcomed, other than buy a newer model.

Several sites had the inlet valve. I am going to take my chances order it find repair guy that will fix it and pray it takes care of the problem.

insufficient water

Easy way to see if it is due to a lack of water is wait until its finished filling open it and throw in a jug or 2 of water and see if that resolves the issue ...

Replace The Inlet Valve

I have almost never seen one that is clogged, they just wear out.

If the inlet valve clogs on a DW you would be experiencing clogging at every faucet shower head and you washer in your house all these items use far more water than a DW.

John, clogging of inlet valves (screens), faucets, showers does occur.  As I've mentioned several times, one of RJ's rental houses in an old neighborhood and rust/debris is dislodged from the city utility infrastructure there whenever work is done on the mains.  The dishwasher inlet there has clogged twice, leading to tenant complaints that the dishwasher isn't working.  I diassembled and cleaned it both times (no leaking occurred).  The alternative would been replace the valve twice in 5 years, which doesn't seem reasonable.  Everyone, everywhere doesn't operate under ideal water supply conditions.

Clogged inlet valve screens on dishwashers

Hi Glenn, I certainly know that it is possible for a screen to clog on a dishwasher inlet valve, it’s an extremely rare occurrence however.

I change at least one inlet valve a week and I don’t remember seeing a clogged one in the last five years.

In order for the screen to clog it would have to be 100% covered and about a quarter inch thick, by the time you have that much gunk in the DW valve everything in the house would be clogged up.

If you have that type of water problems a whole house water filter should be installed to prevent all kinds of plumbing problems even toilet valves will stick with that much stuff getting in them.

I put a whole house incoming water filter in about 10 years ago when they were replacing all the water lines in this neighborhood as a precaution.

I did change the filter last year for the first time in 10 years it wasn’t significantly clogged, and I doubt I’ll have to change it again In the next 20 years.
