I have a Kitchenaid KUDA23 dishwasher, the one with the full digital display panel. It runs fine, but being cautious, I was interested in getting a parts unit just in case things start to go bad in the future. I haven't seen a lot of these around, but a neighbor is getting rid of his working KUDA22, and I was wondering if the electronics could be made to work in my 23. I know they have different Kitchenaid part numbers, but they look similar. Some parts in the door and racks and body are identical, and some have totally different numbers. Does anyone have an idea if some of the more important parts could be made to work inside my 23? Or do I just keep looking for an exact match?

I'll hazard an educated guess that there are more differences between the 22 and 23 series than the 21 and 22 series.  You can see the obvious one just by looking inside the tubs.  Your 23 has the Whirlpool Power Clean module, which looks nothing like the Hobart-designed assembly on series 22 and older.

Whirlpool's influence was far more pronounced beginning with the 23 series, so I'd wager that the electronics from the 22 may not be an exact match.

If any of the KA experts reply to this thread, they'll be able to provide details.

What about KUDI23?

I found one on craigslist, and except for the lack of electronics and control board area, the KUDI23 looks like a lot of the internals and parts would match. The heated dryer not so much, but pumps, arms, doors, gaskets, maybe even the motor, etc look like the same. Anyone think that is a better match and worth the trouble to get/store for future failure?

And I also saw a KUDA23 control board on ebay, and was wondering if anyone has an idea of the failure rate of these and if getting an extra would be worth it if the KUDA22 doesn't work.

Thanks!
Brian

The Imperial (KUDI23) parts you mentioned would match.

Whirlpool did make improvements to the electronics, but the 23 series may have preceded them.  Hobart's electronics were notoriously failure-prone.  If someone here can confirm whether the 23 series used the improved version, that would help you decide if sticking with 23 series for back-up is the best, if not only, plan for you.
