Hi All!
I noticed a few mentions of Kumbacha tea in other threads. I tried some Kumbacha from a health food friend of mine. It was wonderful, and she claims it has loads of health benefits. She gave me a scobee, but nothing hapened. I must have done something wrong. Can the Kumbacha experts offer advice? My friend is a doll, but she doesn't know much about the scientific benefits of the Kumbacha. She only says that it is good for you, and that it is bad Karma to leave the toilet seat up!

Re: Kombucha tea

Hi, Bobby. I just got back on the tea 2 months ago and I feel GREAT!!!! I also used to take prozac, wellbutrin and ritalin and decided to quit them all And I feel better than ever. I orderd the scobee (mushroom-looking slimy thing) I Talke 1 gal. of purified water, 1 cup of sugar and 6 tea bags of your choise. Once the tea cools I put the tea and but in the scoby and then put all in a sun tea jar and rubber-band an old tea shirt and put it somewhere warm and let it set for 5 days. After 5 days remove the scobee and put the tea into an airtight container for another 5 days to ferment. There is alchol in it (max 2%) At the end of 5 days, you're ready. I drink a gallon per day. I hope this helps, Bobby.....Bill in Az...

Thanks Bill! Can you order a scoby or does it have to be taken fresh from someone when it replicates? I thought they had to be kept in a bit of Kumbacha all the time.

Hi

Hey, Bobby. I ordered mine from Getkombucha.com. I also ordered some more from a ladt in Utah from Ebay and there are alot of "classes" on youtube. They also said not to put the scobee or the tea in any metal containers, use only glass or food-grade plastics. I hope this helps, Take care.....Bill in Az.....

Sincere question--

What's this supposed to do better than Walgreens?

I know the FDA is overburdened, and can rush things through the approval process, and and and, but I like to have recourse......

Hi, Lawrence

Long time no talk. I hope all is well with you. There is not alot of clinical research on this probably because its natural and the FDA dosen't care about natural things. I used to drink this years ago and after moving I got out of the habit of making it. It just gives you super energy, makes people loose weight without trying because it speed up your metabolism. I normally weigh 130 but today I weigh 124! Not that I tried to. I know how to gain that weight back with ganja. It is AWESOME stuff!!!!.....Bill in Az.....

It's not voodoo or anything, it's just a mild fermentation of healthy tea. It tastes great, and supposedly has great benefits, such as red wine and green tea. Who knows? I just like weird stuff. For God's sake I collect old appliances!

Hey Lawrence,

It first took off in the kooky-super-holistic-healthier-than-thou circles in the extreme health foods sector about 20 years ago. I remember having a glass back in the late 80's and thinking, well, ok - too much alcohol for my taste (I don't drink) and sort of tastes like spoiled tea.

Which it is.

Basically, it is just a symbiote of two organisms which like to grow on tea. It produces the same range of CO2 and alcohol (there are fungi in the scobi, too) and may also release some other psycho-active compounds into the suspension.

Just another health-food craze. Like all of them, it starts out in the far-out health food nut houses and spreads to the smart class (like the folks here, I am not calling any of us nuts) and then goes commercial. A bit later it disappears, only to be reconstituted a few years later as the newest discover of ancient medicine.

I would save my money and not bother. Kiefer is another one of those ancient-knowledge-handed-down-through-the-ages 'in cultures superior to ours' thing-ys which come and go regularly. Same fungus, or similar, probably. Gives you a buzz from the alcohol, but they make the exact same claims for it.

I am adding a link to one of the most absurd pseudo-science publications to be found in the English language about it. The German stuff is even sillier.

Lawrence:
No offence taken. It is a neat thing this Kombacha, and it tastes pretty good when done right.

Phillygirl:
Thanks! Thats a good looking scoby in the jar shown. Notice how they replicate? From what I understand, it is more like a brewer's fermentation process than a fungal infection. I have a cast iron stomach, so I'm not too worried. Try the stuff, it has a kick! (Hope all is going well with you and your family)

replicating

Hi, Bobby. Yes they sure do have babies. I've read on the net that you can take the little baby shrumes and put them in a blender and apply the mixture to your face and have an awesome facial. I haven't done it yet, but I will today. They say when you're done, your face will be smooth as a baby's butt. I shall find out.....Bill in Az.....

Bill:
That's a new one to me. I'll have to pass that on to my Kumbacha friend. She may tell me that putting a scoby in the blender is murder!
