Would this have been made by D&M or by Whirlpool?

Yes it's D&M. Whirlpool didn't start making Kenmore dishwasher until around 1983. As for glasses, it's fairly deep sided. It doesn't spin fast enough to throw stuff out of it over the top.

Yes, that's a Roto Rack. It does spin. I've seen one, and I recall there was fixed tube under the top rack. That tube sprays water, which washes the top rack, and also causes it to spin.
I don't know how well it washes the top rack, vs a fixed rack/moving spray arm. But it's certainly more fun than that!

The top rack is washed vey well. And because it does spin at a nice rate, I never found gibblets on top of things either.

I have this same machine in white exterior and gold interior. Family christmas present(new)1972 Lady kenmore portable...with the panel lights and electronic readout to the right on two levels....really worked great for many decades...acquired a leak. and the motor , is gone... I think...was used once when I was out of town. Can this motor and pump unit be replaced.?? Is it one unit combo??..My Hobart repairman did not think it could....Is it made by D&M or Whirlpool?? She was one intense cleaner, would like to get her up and running, they will all soon be at my house, due to my mother insisiting I move them from her basement, all 6 dishwashers, the oldest being a GE power Wash Mobile Maid, turquoise interior and sparkle laminate top...white and lots of chrome...PLEASE someone advise me...I am a new member and need some of your gold members advice...Saw the pics of the WASH IN, (do not know anyone yet...need to display my pics of my collections) Minneapolis, wish I could find a Philco Bendix Combo, 1960> MY DREAM Machine, and witness one running,the combo units that are so unique, makes me very H/H. I really enjoyed the pics of the cake being made and the icing..looked great with espresso, for my driven friends.

If so I would think this one is quite rare.
This is located about 400 miles from Atlanta. If it was closer I would nab it in a second.

i have a lady kenmore front loader similiar to the one you are asking about, also have an earlier top loader model too. i have rebuilt both machines and motors are still out there, just bought one from "modern parts house" in parma ohio a few months ago.
the actual pump seal itself is available on e bay right now for $2.99 each, i have bought about 6 of em over the past year. the guy seems to have a ton of them.
the motor is seperate from the pump which has a lower housing for the drain pump and an upper pump housing for the spray arm pump. these parts are also out there still.
the machine is far from finished. if you want to repair it it is not difficult. you can always e mail me directly and i can help you. i may take a bit to reply but i will get back to you.
i use my top loader all the time and love it. the front loader is just part of my collection.
oh yea, it is a d&m machine.

1972lkdishwash--I don't know much about restoring older Kenmore dishwashers. But--as a general rule--I wouldn't pay much attention to repairmen saying: "It can't be repaired!" Maybe they are right sometimes. But other times it's some other factor, like their parts supply channel being limited to only newer machines. There are probably countless stories people on this site could tell about an appliance that needed some part that was discontinued 30 years ago, and yet managed to either find that part or a suitable equivalent.
