Nice ad for Clorox and Sears -- I have often wondered why Whirlpool/Kenmore's timed bleach dispenser waits until there are only four minutes left in the wash cycle to release the bleach? I like my bleach in the wash water longer than that so I don't use the dispenser in my Whirlpools and Kenmores. Did Whirlpool do some sort of scientific bleach research to determine that four minutes was good enough for clothes to be washed in bleach? Just curious...

I believe the rational behind adding the bleach latter is that the detergent is more effective , especially if the detergent contains enzemes, if LCB isn't added at the beginning of the wash cycle. Some front loaders don't even add the LBC during the wash at all, but rather it is added during the 1st rinse.

Set for maximum wash time, that gives 10 minutes until LCB is dispensed.  Always worked well.  Incidentally Todd, our TOL 1964 DispensoMat Norge dispensed LCB at the last 4 minutes of wash just like Kenmores.  My Lady Shredmore waited until the last two minutes, which I did't feel was long enough.

The 1960 Kenmore Model 80 I grew up with dispensed bleach in the last four minutes of the wash, too. That was long enough to disinfect and remove stains, while giving detergent time to do its work. As pointed out, LCB kills enzymes, essentially neutering modern detergents.

Plus, the bleach is still in solution in the load during the drain and spin which ads up to quite a bit of time until the agitation of the deep rinse partially dilutes and flushes it out of the fabrics before the second rinse gets the rest of it.

Those machines are the greenest Kenmores I have ever seen.
