'Tis but a memory now...
... But what fun it was!!!! It was so much fun seeing friends and meeting new faces!!! That wash-in was definetly a HUGE success!! I can't wait for the next one! (I'm thinking Omaha?) ;D
Robert, you have such a BEAUTIFUL collection, all it needs is that Apex Wash-A-Matic! (And maybe one less Unimatic... you know, I could help with that!) I can't wait to return and see them all again!!
Jed, so many wonderful pictures!!! I especially love the ABC-O-Matic's picture, that was perfect timing! And btw, I didn't overload the Norge THAT badly, I think... lol! What does Bob think? Is it overloaded or loaded just right?

I'm sure it's just fine! Although I do remember Robert saying, "now that's a happier Norge". LOL
I agree, the wash-in was extremely fun! Lots of people, and everyone had a great time. I'm still getting used to the fact that other people like washers too!

He said it was happier after I changed the agitator back to it's ORIGINAL! lol, perhaps he was talking about the Norge missing it's agitator!

Well, what destroyed the GE pump?? Probably a hair-pin or a pink foam curler! Gosh that LK is just mint under the hood!

Jed - your photos are just wonderful! I completely agree - your desktop selection is a great shot; your dad's camera really shines with that one.

One question, when you do your own laundry, how in the world do you ever decide what machine to use?
Well Allen, I usually don't think much about it. I use the Unimatics, the Super Unimatic, the Speed Queen and the Kelvinator the most. Others get their turn as I see fit and depending on what I washing. Items with lots of dog hair go into either GE or the Super Unimatic, Jeans in the Kenmore, Towels in 700+ rpm machines, colored clothes get washed in all the other machines. Each machine gets used at least once a month.
It seems you have an example of just about every major design on hand.

Seeing the lint filter on the LK '57 reminded me of the '60 Model 80 I grew up with. Those filters really collected lint efficiently, and even though a lever was added to hold the filter in place by 1960, there would still be the occasional little geyser of water shooting straight up from the filter when it was clogged. You'd open the lid of the washer and get hit in the face with water!

Robert and Neil are great host(esses)! I can always thank Ross (Westyslantfront) and the Tucson gang for my first wash-ins. I was simply amazed. The oldest machine I had ever used was my grandmother's 69 GE. I never even knew there were washers that went up and down or swirled around horizontally. And believe me I know what you mean about getting used to others liking washers too Tuthill. I felt so weird for the first time watching a machine with OTHER PEOPLE!!! *gasp*
Glad you guys all had a good time! Wish I could have been there.

That was a lot of fun; thanks again, Robert!! It was so good to see everyone again. We (Ben and I) started the evening off at Don Shier's better half's home (Scott) in North Minneapolis with a very nice dinner that Scott had prepared and Don had to miss (I think there is a blonde moment involved here!). Ben and I made it over to Robert's at about 8:00. If Ben weren't there, I'd probably STILL be trying to get back over I35 to 46th Street!!
Love the photos; good job Jed and Robert. I'm glad to see someone finally used Harriet's Hotpoint. That sure is a pretty machine. The brand new Lady Kenmore is BEAUTIFUL! 1950's laundry at its very finest.

I'm sorry I missed the Wizard Citation ... SHOOT. I always thought the Wizard Citation wringer washer always looked so "unique" with all the levers and dials. From the photos of this automatic, it truly does look and act like a "pig"! When you first look at it in person, however, it has a very small agitator; it looks sort of "out of place" to the tub. I am going to have to see that baby in action some time.
All of these machines are beautiful and Robert's collection of vintage laundry supplies is wonderful. I can always go over there and get a "fix" of Cold Water All ... or maybe vintage Downy or Final Touch (with bluing, of course) ... Robert had a box of vintage Oxydol going that still maintained its fragrance; absolutely wonderful!!
Oh ... BTW ... that is NOT a "ShredTag" ... AHEM ... I still say someone threw a Kleenex in there just to be spiteful!!
