Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I have pictures finally....and questions

So, a friend of mine gave me this washer as he bought a new set when his dryer stopped working correctly. I just opened it up. It washes just fine. I am going to post some pics I took and then ask some questions.

and now..... time for the questions

So this is Myrtle the Maytag. I loved this style of Maytag washer and mammaw bought one similar in 1995. But i really like the faster agitation of the newer newton maytags. She agitates just fine and has great output during spin out. This brings us to the questions.

I had to spin the water out into a mop bucket as I am working out my garage at the moment. I noticed quite a bit of rust in the bucket water. The rust looks just like what you see in base of the machine. Could this be a rusty outer tub or just because it sat a while and I had to move it on its side?

The rust on the bottom of the outer tub as seen in the last pic. Is that just where porcelin has chipped away or is that actually the tub rusting through?

I don't know when the leak happened around the bleach hose but currently no water is leaking around the machine anywhere.

Does everything look normal in the pic showing the transmission and base?

Since this is my first attempt at fixing a machine up, where do I start?
I value and respect all of you guys knowledge and know so any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Looks like bleach and water got around the sides of the bleach spout and dripped down.  I would for sure change the bottom clamp as it is rusty and the top clamp too.  Clean up the rest and run a few loads throughhe.  As far as rusty wate being pumped out others caqn tell you more than me.
