*Update*
Funny old world isn't it?
Well with the Miele on blink decided to get moving on that other project, AEG Lavamat toplader......
First had to sort out where that huge converter would reside. Since the thing is rather large and while on casters doesn't shift easily decided it would be moved to a permanent spot.
Took the toplader from its cubby and after a bit of a squeeze got the converter into that spot. Toplader will go elsewhere for now, and be wheeled into position when required. It does have casters of a sort (a lever lowers and raises two small wheels at back), have put the thing on appliance movers for now.
Wiring up the converter took a bit of work and having to add yet more tools to my kit. One hates buying new tools just for a job because then they sit sitting haunting me later, but needed a good wire stripper and crimper along with NEMA 6-20P and 6-20R, and of course some O ring terminal connectors. Last bit were two power cords rated to carry load (three wire/12 awg.
You can see above input 220v is just two hots and a ground (no neutral), so that was easy enough. Stripped off bit of wire ends, inserted same into O ring terminal, crimp, test crimp, test crimp again, then connect wires.
Output was going to be a bit tricky.... Washer has German Shucko plug (as does my German mangle, and one of my ironers when it arrived). Rewired the ironer with an American 220v/20amp Nema 6-20p, but for some reason (don't ask) didn't want to cut plug off AEG and do same. I'm an idiot aren't I?
Sadly local electrical supply houses do not carry German Shucko plugs, and while could order one from Germany didn't want to wait. So.....
Stripped, attached crimp connectors to output cord, then connected that end to converter. On other end attached proper plug and here I am with this!
It's called Quirky Prop Power Wrap-Around Extension Cord EU Type F Schuko! Nice bit of kit and had no qualms cutting off plug and connecting proper Nema.
So now we've got wires galore, my bank account rather depleted again this month, but light at end of tunnel. Happily for one it isn't a train!
Hooked everything up and powered on with AEG washer seemingly happy! Well she came on with no nasty comments about power or frequency, so that's a good start. I'll put it down as one point in my book.
Will conduct a full test later on as have piles of washing that want doing.
If after all this the bloody toplader still won't handle a full load as before, then will give up. But cannot see how one can fail this time; new converter is rated for about eighty amps whilst other barely five. How much bloody power does a washer need for god sakes? *LOL*
