I miss her postings and wish her well too.

I will say, regarding the "comment", it is my recollection that she had posted about 10 or so (maybe more) new threads with just the link in them in a very short space of time so it maybe was not entiredly unjustified.

I do sometimes find it a bit frustrating when I open a tread to find yet another craigslist link, although it helps a lot if people comment on the item (and i dont mean bitching about the price, condition or sellers description) sharing and enriching the collective pool of knowledge. Personally I like the single thread that we tend to use in the UK (and I will admit this will inevitably be of more interest to me) or the one that Louie/Ultramatic posts which one can easily choose to avoid if one wishes. Oddly enough, I dont mind the threads on ranges so much as the others - although I could not begin to tell you why.

I hope Launderess sees this thread, its nice to be loved!

Couldn't threads stay active for a fixed amount of time rather than falling into the archive if about 100 other threads get newer posts (which happens quickly in the Imperial section)?
Quite a few times, I couldn't make a followup on a thread that had been archived too quickly (in my opinion). I don't blame other posters for that. Having many threads and many posts is what make an active forum. Would it be possible to keep threads active for a few months after their last post? I often wish I could reply to an old (and even just a two weeks old) thread but there's no reply box anymore.

On other forums that don't archive their threads, I often resurrected very old (I mean years old!) threads and I don't think it caused any problems! Sometimes, on forums with email notification, it also stimulates occasional posters to look back at the forum they haven't visited for a while as they get a notification by email. It also allows posting all the information about something in the same thread instead of creating multiple separate threads about the same thing.

Also a bit out of the subject but I never figured how (or if there's a way?) to get email notifications for replies to threads we posted in. That's a feature I really like when it's available. Also, (and this is completely out of the subject but I won't create a thread for that!). How do people quote other's comments in red text over their avatar? I was never able to do it. I did try to use the "Blockquote" in the editing bar but that doesn't seem to work for me.

Hi Phil, good comments. I didn't see that original thread until just now, my adorable husband still slaving away at work just sent me a text with the thread number that you all are referring to. OK now I get it, lol.

You make some good points on possible features. The email notification feature would be the easiest for me to write of all of your suggestions. The not falling off for two months bit would make the index list huge and google penalizes sites for having too many links on one page so that wouldn't be ideal. I think I could also look into making threads be reserected, that probably would be more complicated than the email feature, but it would be a better solution than having 300 links on one page. Food for thought for me.

So number one and number three are certainly near-term possibilities. Years ago I liked threads that fell of the list if they were controversial, it was a relief to see them gone. These days automaticwasher.org generally so calm and polite (compared to most other forums I see) that it really isn't an issue and I can always close the worst of them.

Any other wish list requests will I'm feeling programmy?

Well, It pays to have a thick skin when dealing with others on the internet. Sometimes things don't "sound" the same way in print as they do in person. Just a fact of life. Don't know if this was the type of thing that happened here, as some people are simply trolls and go out of their way to be offensive to others. At any rate, I wish Laundress well and hope we hear from her soon.

I too miss Laundress

It is really easy. You simply have to conduct yourself as you would if you were in any members living room or laundry room. I consider it a privledge to be a member of AW.org not a right. I plan to continue to conduct myself accordingly. arthur

I miss her too.  I've known her since I found that "other" modern appliance forum in 2000 or 2001 and she was sharing all her wonderful knowledge back then and had me hooked.  such a dear lady.

Robert,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I imagine there's quite some work involved in making those changes.

Here are a few suggestions I could easily live without but I'll make them anyway!

About the number of active threads in each section, I was wondering if there could be a series of pages showing active threads, like on other forums I visit. Older threads could remain active but displayed on page 2, or even on page 144... And if someone would like to add a comment to an old thread, it would be brought back to page 1. I don't know how Google works but I imagine this could solve some of the problems related to the number of links displayed on each page.

As most of us care about keeping things from the past active, keeping the older threads active rather than archived would make sense to me! I don't like too much when there's a lot of sticky threads with no new post since last year on the first page of a forum and you have to scroll down to see the newest posts (and I know there's no such thing here!), but sometimes it's fun to resurrect an old thread when some related information/questions could be added to a topic without having to start the same discussion all over. And with available email notification, some members who don't watch the new posts everyday or even every month could visit and add comments if the old thread they posted in resurfaces. Members posting about a particular machine of their collection could update their original thread too if they did work on their machine of if they have a new issue with it or just if they had fun making a video of it!

Another nice feature of some forums is that email notification could be turned on/off for each thread you post in or you can choose to subscribe to a thread even without posting in. It can also notify only once when there's a new post after the last one you read from each thread you subscribed to and the email links bring you directly to the first unread post from the thread you're visiting. That's nice on 14 page threads!

It could be nice to have multiple page threads instead of having to make a part 2 and a part 8 in a different thread.

It would also be nice to be able to do multiple quotes in one post so you could reply to 3 posts at a time because sometimes, it's hard to link too distant posts in a discussion.

It would also be nice to be able to post links anywhere you want in a post rather than at the bottom and to have a feature that allows you to embed pictures from other websites. I know it's already possible and I occasionally do it (I love to see pictures!) but it seems to be challenging to some who (like me) aren't too familiar with computers.

Just wanted to say am not "angry" with anyone or thi

Just took at break for awhile to concentrate on meaningful aspects of life; peg bags and that sort of thing.

It is nice to know one has been missed. To all my friends out there in the dark; thank you.

Land of Laundress

It's funny - I was thinking this about a week ago, or more - wondering if "she" took a vacation..or decided to give it a rest? I have been thinking about "her" for a week, and then this thread...thought it was strange, as "she" always has alot to say of interest or funny.

Hellooooo out there...any Laundress listening?
