Has anyone every seen one of these? The advertisment is from 1955.

Yes, esp. the knob makes it look very Frigidaire. But I'm betting its a Beam derivative. There is another one called "One Minute". I think these were old wringer washer brands that didn't stick around too much longer after automatics came in vogue.

Perhaps one of the Iowa guys will know for sure, but I think Laundry Queen and One Minute were Iowa-based companies. I've seen more than a handful of One Minute wringer washers. I would also venture to guess that there was a very similar Coronado branded washer. All of their early washers were straight from the Beam factory too, like Hotpoint, Speed Queen, etc.

What is interesting is that in all other co-0p ads with Tide they talk extensively about the washer features too, but this one talks about only Tide, nothing about the washer Maybe it was a strategic adv. plant by Tide to get other real manufacurers to put Tide in thier Machines and create the famous pairing. I can find no references to a machine called Laundry Queen. Maybe they were trying to court Speed Queen into a Co-op ad?

The plant idea is interesting, also it could be a simple mistake. It looks awfully cheesy (like a paste-up job) and the hinge isn't the same as the Coronado.

Maybe, this was a mock-up used for approvals, the Speed Queen co-op contract called for a placement, the product manager called for "that queen" advertisement, and presto...Speed Queen became Laundry Queen.

What publication was this in?

If you look at the bottom of the Laundry Queen ad you can see that there is some copy that didn't make it into the scan. I bet that is the blurb telling about the features of the Laundry Queen since I have never seen one of this style Tide COmmercial that did not include a plug for the manufactures washer pictured in the ad.. "Laundry Queen" reminds me of the woman who put out that clever record in reply to Roger Miller's hit song, KING OF THE ROAD, where she turned the same melody into QUEEN OF THE HOUSE, complaining about doing nothing but housework all the live-long day.

I had that exact Coronado washer once, that is where I got my "Big Red" agitator from that I use in the Speed Queen at times.

I rescanned the picture. It is from a Ladies Home Journal, May 1955. The magazine is oversized and hard to scan. (I'm not very computer savy either).Oh and to Decodriveboy I knew that one would be comeing from someone.

The woman's hair in the picture is a disaster, and grandma's dress in previous post looks like a used nautical patchwork bedspread in the steerage comparment of the Titanic. What a horrible ad. We hope the Tide washes them all away.
