Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Oh Ben of Blackstone

I had no Idea you had one, and now Fred is right here. He generously sent me a copy of the Sacred Blackstone Text wherein the wonders of the Flex-o-Trol are revealed.

Do you know of these wonders? Let me know if you'd like a copy. We should do a joint post. This machine's moves are so incredible, so "Back to the Future," that I get all shaky and weirded-out thinking about them.

The wide though almost transparent fill flume is visible between 9:30 and 11:30. The long string of spit between the rims is sudsy water hurled thru the very visible slits.

Power Wash

The Sacred Text warns of dire consequences if washing at low water levels, at which level the agitation is almost frightening.

There are no currents; there is only the terrible turbulence--and the rapture ohhhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhhh, mercy;'D

Thanks for the kind comments guys - and it was nice to see Eugene's laundry room as well as Chris' set-up.

Eddy - I haven't been very productive about it, but I bought a replacement motor from Grainger (5K554) about 6 months ago. It fits within the original crade frame (56J). Unfortunately it is a 3 wire set-up vs. the 5 (or 6?) wires on the original Delco motor in the Kelvinator. I have a buddy here on my Motors team who is going to try and wire it up. Otherwise I'll take my old motor to a machine shop to have them remove my old cracked clutch so the replacement clutch can be used.

Fred and Mike - I love the Blackstone, and hopefully this winter it and the Maytag 101P will get some attention. Mike, the Blackstone is going to require a tear down and rebuild. Also Fred, when it agitates it doesn't agitate on the whole stroke, just moves one way. Doesn't seem like the spider is catching the agitator shaft properly. Also the rivited bushing on the inside of the agitator is almost non-existant and makes a scraping sound. I'll have to take a look at the repair manual soon (thanks for the copy!).

I created this website to advertise my building for sale. I included a picture of Ben's 350 in the website.

I'm surprised to hear about the incomplete agitation. It worked fine as I put it together. Perhaps the shaft is not rising enough. I was thinking about junking Blackstone agitators as I move stuff to the new shed, but I'll hold them for now.

Sorry guys, that was the last available Blackstone from the store. The only remaining complete 350 [and matching dryer] stays with me.

Eddy - Yeah, where's the Viking?

swestoyz - I can not recognize the Lady Kenmore (at the front of maytag dryer). 1960?

Rodrigo - here is a picture of the 1959 Kenmore Eighty. It is just below the TOL 1959 Lady Kenmore. This machine had the first alphabet choice timer. You turn the outer ring to the letter of wash that you want, then you pull out the timer knob and turn it to the right until it stops. Push it in and you are set. A lovely machine, but isn't as cool as the dreamy Lady K.

Fred - I'll be in touch with you in the next few weeks. Things are ramped up on the house work, but I suspect that sometime in November things will settle down a bit so I can start to put some time into the Blackstone.

Rodrigo, here it is in the corner of the storage area. It's sad I know, but the motor quit working and now only hums. Greg was even kind enough to send me the filter which was missing. I seem to have bad luck with motors lately. This will be on my to do list.

Thank you Eddy
Swestoyz - Now I recognize the Lady K, wonderful. Congrats.

But, dear friends, I need know. What is "TOL" and "BOL"?
TOL = Top of Line? And BOL?

Kelvinator!

Ben,
That Kelvinator is absolutly awsome. According to the time line control it looks like it is in the final splashaway phase.
I like the way the magic minute sticks out on the time line in solid red.
Best Wishes,
Peter

Ben, what a beautiful machine and I do love that Kenmore as well!!!! You just have to love all that water drama!!

Explain please.

Is it just my imagination or do the buttons and knobs on this gorgeous Kelvy remind anybody else of those late '50's Wizards?

Yeah, and what's that metal button on the cabinet just to the right of the back of the lid? Self destruct?
