with it under a dry cloth, and then immediately transfer the coffee to a thermal bottle? Or take it to a welding shop??

I have that same coffee pot...

From 1968...It does make great coffee! I hope you can get it fixed.
 
Two possible solutions

If the leak is in a non-load bearing area, aquarium grade silicone/food-grade silicone seal will fix it.
Has to be that grade and the surface has to be absolutely de-greased.
If the leak is load bearing, food-grade epoxy, after through curing covered completely on the inside with food-grade silicone seal. Again, total and complete cleanliness is a must.
Stainless steel surfaces are easy to seal if properly oil-free.
 
Yup

I would say, no, non-load bearing and, yes, you can clean all that oil out. There are coffee pot cleaners you can buy, but rubber gloves, elbow grease and patience will do it, too.
