SLP98V Update?

Hi There:
I am considering replacing our furnace and AC unit and looking at Lennox. Any updates on the performance of the SLP98V?

I am considering that one or (since we live in San Diego and don't have harsh weather) the SL280V. Either would be way more efficient that our 18 year old Rheem furnace and AC.

Leaning towards the Carbon Clean 16 filter as well. How often do you need to change the filters?

Thanks for feedback.

Hi Bob-- The Lennox furnace worked like a champ through its first, unusually cold (even for Minnesota), winter. It has a learning curve: Lower fan speeds are used at first. It gradually learns how fast the blower needs to operate to keep the house at the correct temp. I was concerned about that during the fall, when temps were still moderate. The fan always seemed to operate at 30%, which I knew wasn't going to cut the mustard in January.

Wi-Fi Thermostat: I love it, as it can be controlled via an app from any computer or mobile device. My heating/cooling needs don't have a pattern. Consquently, I never ever use the "heat on at 6:00 a.m. / temp lowered at 8:00 a.m.," automatic settings. I like to pull up the app and raise or lower the temp when I'm ready to leave work to head home. Or I'll turn on the blower for a couple of hours to rid the house of eau de litter box before I get home. Very convenient. It also alerts me if there's a malfunction.

Filter: The standard replacement cycle is 12 months, but I'm going to check mine at the end of this month. I'm assuming a lot of accumulated dust/fluff was shaken loose when the furnace was replaced. Does a great job of filtering, too.

The furnace has only been in use 7 months, so I can't speak to its longevity. It has far more high-tech electronics than my old Lennox Pulse furnace, so time will tell how well it holds up. So far I'm very happy with it. If you set the temp to 70 degrees, it almost never deviates by even one degree.
