Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

what I do not like

is what appears to be a plastic suspension stabilizer on the FL machine. And when he started on about "algorithm" stuff, I shuddered.

Speed Queen...

I noticed the SPRING & Plastic tub mounts, are these NEW and / or do previous and commercial front loaders use these? I would have expected Gas dampers...

Algorythm`s are good, if they are matched with a good motor, power card and speed controller they provide excellent stability!!

They look easy to understand and use, but then again its nothing we`ve not had here since 1976 albeit with a heater.

Tremendous improvements with flexibility and capacity.  But DAMNIT, STILL NO HEATER.  They dropped the ball on not having a heater in a modern front loader.  Without that, still a front loader that's "challenged".  Just like the guy having difficulty getting their diapers stain free in their SQ FLer without lots of effort because of no heater.  It's a shame SQ discontinued their model with the hot water booster.  I've had a FLer without a heater and won't do that again unless the Eco Nazis take away extra hot washes.

Electroic controls

John was right, they're using the same electronic controls as is being used in their commercial, demanding environments.  That was extremely wise choice.

Cycles

Times are longer.
Pulse spins appear to have been replaced with constant spins.
Up to 4 rinses.
Soak and prewash can be added to rinse and spin cycle, what what?
No more warm rinse option.

Wonder what the top spin speed is for both TL and FL machines...

TL Manual

According to the manual for the TL model, you can set it for 6 water changes.

SOAK
PREWASH
MAIN WASH
RINSE 1
RINSE 2
RINSE 3

That is a LOT of water!

Default?

I notice there are selections on the FL for "Second Rinse" and "Third Rinse..."

Does this mean the default is only a single rinse? (If so, YUCK).

Must also add thats its quite disappointing SQ haven't included a heater in their residential model.
Its nice their is a greater selection of cycles, and more variation in the machine's washing pattern, but we're talking about a washer that is priced similarly, if not more than competing Euro-style washers!* Yet those washers offer far more customisation (flexibility) and a water heater to boot.
Build quality is great, of course, but if the washing isn't as good as it could be (or should be), whats the point of irritating yourself to no end for up to 25,000 cycles?

Before I close, I will admit the drum redesign appears as if it might assist with the washing action. I'd be curious about the water levels these machines use, in the washing and rinsing phases.

*In Australia, last I checked, they were going about $600 more than we bought our Miele W5741 for (about $1800)

Design error. If I select pre-wash and add the fabric softener dispenser in I'll have clothes with fabric softener in the main wash. The top load model should be same as dispenser drawer front load model.

washer111

washer111,

most topload washers are a 1 rinse only depending on the model not all model have a second rinse option if the canadien speed queen branded hubesch offers these electronic control topload models in canada i will use only a single rinse the only time i would select a second or third rinse is if i use fabric softner to remove the extra sent left by the fabric softner or if i had to include with the full cycle a prewash or soack time to the main cycle if you look at the picture i posted as an exemple for the old 1993 direct drive model washer you will see no second rinse option

However...

The manual for the front loader poses the option of a 2nd and 3rd rinse. From personal experience, 2 rinses on the Cottons cycle (F/L) with a reduced detergent dosage aren't even enough, let alone one. Even three isn't enough sometimes, depending on the detergent loading needed (Softened water).

I'd personally suggest washing a complete load of clothes in a TL machine with a single rinse, resetting for a second rinse, and noting how cloudy/clear the water is. That would be a more definitive verdict, IMO.

FL Rinsing

From the manual, the second rinse button adds a third rinse and the 3rd rinse button makes it four total.

Malcolm

Typically American I guess because a standard toploader only has one rinse. But why on earth can't they call it a third rinse and a fourth rinse? Just like not mentioning the spinspeeds in numbers but in low, medium and high etc. The American consumer is left in the dark with all those things.

It’s the industrial kind of counting rinses.
The last "rinse" is equal to the conditoning in commercial words. The application of any kind of conditoning (softner, starch) is not counted. So a big laundry company would count:

Soak
Prewash
Wash
Rinse
Conditoning
Extracting

in contrast to the household way

Prewash with soak
Wash
Rinse
Rinse with softner
Spin.

Thus, Second rinse means 2 rinses plus softner rinse and 3rd rinse 3 rinses plus softening.

Model w/ Heater

Wondering if maybe a model with a heater might be in the works. Remembering the previous lineup only had one model with a heater out of the 5 offerings.

Heater model in the works

Malcolm, I hope you are right.  Time will tell.  Aside from the lack of this feature, it looks like an amazing washer.

Well

It certainly is more flexible than my current Imperial model. Not sure that the lack of a heater would sway me away from it at this point. I don't really miss it on my current machine. Although, I am not 100% sure I can perform hot starts with the new model as easily.

Malcolm

I always used a prewash with the temp set to Hot on the commercial Speed Queen front loaders to get a decent hot main wash. Then again, the commercial units did a spin before the main wash to get as much of the cool water out of the load before advancing into the main wash. Something these new units no longer do.
