Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Hmpf...

Kind of frustrating. I watched, watched it again, posted it, wanted to watch it again and it went private.
But all you see is basicly a women who had been given a SQ set for free 27 years ago, used it as field tester 'till today and they gave her a set of the new 2015 machines for free again.

That was the wrong agitator for a SQ of that age... Should have had the straight vane agitator with the needle nose cap... Maybe her husband replacing the agitator qualifies still for "no service call"...

I thought the same thing though I was not totally sure.

My Speed Queen  also does have that kind of agitator,  like the  SQ-made amana had  after all ...  but my Speed Queen  is  very special and different than all of her "sisters", it's amanaish as it is a newer model  speed queen but with  a dark heavy porcelain tub like the amana did,  not stainless, so  it was for that reason it also had the old style agitator like amana, even though being a speed queen machine... and  while all of her twin sisters had stainless tubs and the new kind of agi.

They probably used/recycled what they had left from Amana parts to make these Speed Queen  for export, once amana became being made by others, and I don't exclude they were specially made so given the "special"  circumstance, nobody would have cared of the typical SQ stainless basket as long as they were "for free"  .... I explain better: mine comes from a US military base,  machines are raytheon badged internal sticker, they were bought and  imported in lots by US Gov,  to give them  to  military families stationed around the base,  as well as for the whole  base needs.... as I heard it's typical from gov to furnish and provide stationed militaries with appliances and everything they needs, as it's right  to be...

For awhile there were lots of  ads  for cheap  (according to what they costs here)  used  Speed Queen washer and dryers like mine down there in sicily,  sold from militaries coming home back in USA , they all gone in an heartbeat given the super price, you can find nowhere an used one going lower than 500-600 euros... new they cost the double.

I was one of the lucky ones....

Anyway I also initially thought a Speed Queen this old should have had that  kind of agitator as well....as I have seen them having it, but also thought that maybe it was in the years of the switch to the new kind, so certain models did have the old style and others the newers?
Now that I have this confimation from another though, it also confirm my other guess, that  the agitator looks too " new" and shiny to be ever been  used,  that is not impossible but it looks so shiney, and not even a drop  mark or softener signs in the cap, kinda polished, which I doubt they did, so you know what I think?  More likely there was no husband replacing it but it simply was replaced before shooting because the original  was yellowed or something....or simply because a new  one made a better look.

I have also seen how Speed Queen is rather reluctant when on Facebook I make referements to the old and  different agitators they use...especially when they make the comparisons Commercial=Home use....the commercial ones are not completely identical, they have another kind of agi than domestic use ones...
Anyway....

I am glad mine does have this kind of  older agi, as I think it being the best one....

Wow!

Well Malcolm, all I can say is WOW! Love the look of both the top and front load models.

Interesting how he talks about the electronic control manufacturer and that mechanical controls will still be available. I hope that allies the fears that some people on this site have about electronic controls.

Didn't hear him say anything about the F/L model having a heater...that would be interesting to know.

I am already in talks with a member from this site about getting the TL set out here to Oz.

Cheers,
Leon.

Thank you for posting the videos.  The new Speed Queen front load looks incredible.  It is about time Speed Queen permitted the end user cycle flexibility.  When it comes time to replace my machines, this is definitely the direction I will go.

Observations...

1) No heater in the washer. (at least not this model)
2) Looks like ATC control in the washer(s)
3) Wonder what the third rinse does on the TL machine.
4) Pre-Wash option on FL is a welcome option!
5) Electronic dryness sensor in the dryer.

I like the "Miele-like" bevel on the FL controls.

what I do not like

is what appears to be a plastic suspension stabilizer on the FL machine. And when he started on about "algorithm" stuff, I shuddered.

Speed Queen...

I noticed the SPRING & Plastic tub mounts, are these NEW and / or do previous and commercial front loaders use these? I would have expected Gas dampers...

Algorythm`s are good, if they are matched with a good motor, power card and speed controller they provide excellent stability!!

They look easy to understand and use, but then again its nothing we`ve not had here since 1976 albeit with a heater.

Tremendous improvements with flexibility and capacity.  But DAMNIT, STILL NO HEATER.  They dropped the ball on not having a heater in a modern front loader.  Without that, still a front loader that's "challenged".  Just like the guy having difficulty getting their diapers stain free in their SQ FLer without lots of effort because of no heater.  It's a shame SQ discontinued their model with the hot water booster.  I've had a FLer without a heater and won't do that again unless the Eco Nazis take away extra hot washes.

Electroic controls

John was right, they're using the same electronic controls as is being used in their commercial, demanding environments.  That was extremely wise choice.

Cycles

Times are longer.
Pulse spins appear to have been replaced with constant spins.
Up to 4 rinses.
Soak and prewash can be added to rinse and spin cycle, what what?
No more warm rinse option.

Wonder what the top spin speed is for both TL and FL machines...

TL Manual

According to the manual for the TL model, you can set it for 6 water changes.

SOAK
PREWASH
MAIN WASH
RINSE 1
RINSE 2
RINSE 3

That is a LOT of water!

Default?

I notice there are selections on the FL for "Second Rinse" and "Third Rinse..."

Does this mean the default is only a single rinse? (If so, YUCK).

Must also add thats its quite disappointing SQ haven't included a heater in their residential model.
Its nice their is a greater selection of cycles, and more variation in the machine's washing pattern, but we're talking about a washer that is priced similarly, if not more than competing Euro-style washers!* Yet those washers offer far more customisation (flexibility) and a water heater to boot.
Build quality is great, of course, but if the washing isn't as good as it could be (or should be), whats the point of irritating yourself to no end for up to 25,000 cycles?

Before I close, I will admit the drum redesign appears as if it might assist with the washing action. I'd be curious about the water levels these machines use, in the washing and rinsing phases.

*In Australia, last I checked, they were going about $600 more than we bought our Miele W5741 for (about $1800)

Design error. If I select pre-wash and add the fabric softener dispenser in I'll have clothes with fabric softener in the main wash. The top load model should be same as dispenser drawer front load model.

washer111

washer111,

most topload washers are a 1 rinse only depending on the model not all model have a second rinse option if the canadien speed queen branded hubesch offers these electronic control topload models in canada i will use only a single rinse the only time i would select a second or third rinse is if i use fabric softner to remove the extra sent left by the fabric softner or if i had to include with the full cycle a prewash or soack time to the main cycle if you look at the picture i posted as an exemple for the old 1993 direct drive model washer you will see no second rinse option
