LG SteamWasher Problems/Flooding

In Dec of 2008, before my divorce I made the mistake of buying an LG steamwasher and matching dryer from Home Depot.
In this time on four separate occasions, while the machine was off, and the door was open the machine filled with water, over flowed and flooded the basement. After the second time my ex finally called for service. The repairman replaced the inlet valves (which he said did not look to bad) and said he thought it was due to the fact we had well water, which is BS, because we have a softener. Anyway since this repair, it ahs happened two more times, and as recently as today. I called HD and they said they will replace machine after 4 repairs, so service is needed again. What could be causing this??? Thank God I bought that 5 year $99 warranty. Any thoughts, I paid alot for this POS washer?????

Maybe, until you have it replaced, you should not leave the door open. That way, if it fills up with water, the door will be locked by the water level switch so you will have to drain it before you can open the door and the water will be pumped down the drain instead of flooding your basement. Let it air out for a while after using it, but don't leave it unattended for any length of time with the door open. It is already a dead man walking and, maybe, voiding.

I once had the same problem with my Sears HE4T. It was a defective water valve.

I had a LG combo and had leaking problems. After so much BS to make a long story short I scrapped it. The service is herendous and I would never buy another LG product again!

I had issues with an LG washer and dryer. The dryer had a rattle that could not be fixed. The washer developed a squeak as it tumbled. Ended up giving them away on Craigslist.

There are a few things that can cause filling overnight.

The most obvious is faulty inlet valves where although the solenoid activates the actual valve housing does not shut off bacause of limescale etc, causing a slow drip into the drum.

Often especially in new build properties the water pressure can be so high it can lead to a otherwise good valve leaking. May be worth switching the water pressure down.

Also another favorite for the drum filling overnight is the drainage being too low and/ or filling from the sink if the drain hose is attatched to a under sink spiggott.

(leaving the door open won't prevent the appliance overfilling contary to what "tomturbomatic" says, the pressure switch is a electrical switch off safety device so will not switch the valves off with the machine switched off)

Read my post again please, Bertrum. I said to keep the door closed so that any overfilling while the machine is OFF will be contained within the machine instead of running out onto the floor. The weight of the water in the machine, if it fills, with the door closed, will lock the door, not do anything to close the fill valves. If the machine is full of water and the door is locked, it can't accidentally be opened to cause a flood. Rather, the machine would have to be set to DRAIN to empty the tub before the door could be opened.

Betrum, the machine sits on a pedestal in the basement, and the actual standpipe is above the washer, so that is not the problem , I have told me ex to leave the door closed until the machine is fixed. I REALLY REGRET SPENDING SUCH A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY ON THIS MACHINE, AND THE FUNNY THING IS, I DID NOT FEEL RIGHT ABOUT THIS PURCHASE. I HAVE A FEELING THIS MACHINE WILL BE REPLACED EVENTUALLY UNDER WARRANTY. BUT SORRY FOLKS, NO MORE LG FOR ME... THERE IS NO QUALITY CONTROL WITH THESE MACHINES. I DO HOWEVER FEEL GOOD ABOUT MY SQ TOPLOADER PURCHASE.

This is really unsettling and I would be livid.

On a side note, we always turn the water off/on when using the our Whirlpool top loader. Always got into the habit of turning off the water after using it just for the sake of safety.

Can you get to or reach the on/off spigot to be on the safe side?

Door seal

Would the door seal (or the latch for that matter) really hold back much water anyway? These newer front loaders don't really run water up the inside of the door, so I really doubt that it wouldn't leak just as much with the door closed once it got past a couple of inches up the door. It might even break the latch if the latch really locks due to water level (I'd doubt it with the machine turned off).

Update............

So my ex called LG Service today...if you can call it that, I told her to tell them she wanted a new machine, they of course balked at her, and told her that the machine is out of warranty, and that any repairs would have to go through Home Depot extended warranty...Thank God I bought that. Anyway someone from HD will call tomorrow, and let her know when they can come out ot make the repair again. They said at least not for a week, but I will tell you that water really does smell nasty, just like the water that comes out of the "pump guard" when you drain it.....NASTY, worst purchase I ever made, I hate LG, should have bought SQ, now there is a service oriented American company...Get ready for Sears to go down the toilet now that LG is making their washers, what an assinine mistake on their part.
