I have not picked it up just yet. I plan to get it tomorrow. The Seller says it's loud. so it needs either new bearings or a new spider arm. LG has very robust spider arms but even they eventually break. If the spider seal seam is rough I will sand it down a little. if the spider is broken then I'll replace it. Cost for all the parts would be about $140 (if the spider and bearings are both bad). I use SKF bearings on my machines like Member LorainFurniture does. What are the numbers of the 2 bearings I would need? Also is the sanitary cycle on this thing as hot as the steam one. WM2487HWMA? LG says the Steam on the WM2487HWM is a 210 degrees Fahrenheit wash with live steam injected into the top. When I find the steam one I'll steal the panel and steam generator from it. The only thing I wish this one had was the 6 motion technology. But I can move past it because I can find a WM2140CW. Anyways I finally have something to replace the piece of garbage Frigidaire Gallery GLTR1670AS1.

LG FL Washer With Bad Bearings

Hi Kelly, This should be a fun project, the best way to learn about different machines is to tear into them and then use them when you get them going for at least a while even if they are not the best machines ion the first place.

I was wondering what you meant when you said the spider seam seal may be rough, I don't think there is such a part, It also matters little what type bearings you use the real concern is the water seal and the quality of the seal area where the seal lips ride and the quality of the steel shaft itself.

Keep us posted

Bearings are OK enough for me to put in action.

Bearings are OK enough for me to put in action. What are the numbers for the 2 bearings I know one of them is the 6206 but is there another 6206 or is it a 6207. I don't want to remove the bearings yet they are fine for now it sounds like a Boeing 717-200 Rampping up then the sound goes away. the tub is steady and it is no louder then my Frigidaire. It sounds like a "Smart Drive" cabrio/bravo/oasis with a worn bearing. it is not shot unlike the MAH5500BWW.

I'll be documenting a bearing replacement soon.

I still use this machine but whenever I am tired of the noise I will document it.
I completely forgot to Document the Neptune TL I was so excited to get it going. But This LG is on the 3 way tie of my most favorite machines I have. This one
The Neptune TL and the Calypso.

Its All About The Seal And Seal Surface

Hi Kelly, yes you need a new spider and shaft, It does not look like LG used a very good material for the seal collar [ not surprising ], however this washer was also clearly mistreated.

This washer did not see nearly enough detergent for water conditions,

Always use the hot setting, minimum wash temperature needs to be.100F or above.

Use plenty of GOOD detergent, you really can not use too much, too little is the major cause of mineral and crud build-ups in washer.

Use LCB whenever possible.

Combo52: Use plenty of GOOD detergent, you really can not use too much, too little is the major cause of mineral and crud build-ups in washer.
John, there are many folks who disagree, including service techs. I've seen numerous advisories on other discussion boards to use no more than 1 tablespoon to as little as 1 TEASPOON of detergent.

To avoid mineral buildup, which in turn may help prolong seal life, regularly add some STPP to load to keep mineral deposits from forming on washer surfaces and components.

I add about a tablespoon per load, unless the load is very sensitive to mild alkalinity (like silk/woolens, which are better hand washed anyway).

Amount Of Detergent To Use In A Washer

Hi Glenn I totally disagree, unfortunately appliance techs are not always the best people to ask, they also tell people to rinse their dishes before putting them in a DW.

Please explain what putting twice the amount of detergent in a washer will do to it, detergent can not build-up as it dissolves easily in even cold water.

I have studied this for over 45 years and watched how customers use their machines and then dissembled thousands of them and have seen the results first hand of the condition of the outer tubs, hoses, pumps, etc etc.

Hi John, would using powdered detergent or liquid be better for a front loader? I have fairly hard water and liquid doesn't give the water a slick feeling like powder does. So is that slick feeling the water softening agents which I assume would be better for washer parts ?

John, scant detergent dosage is to *avoid* residue and mold, which they say is *caused* by too much detergent.

There's also a large faction paranoid about suds to the point that a few bubbles of aerated water in the last rinse is considered a serious problem. Some operate on the belief that any suds with HE detergent in the wash period is indication of an overdose ... the dosage aim is zero suds at all times.

I also disagree ... am just reporting what I continually read on various other boards.

There sure as hell can be to much detergent just as much as there can be to litlle.

The whole teaspoon or tablespoon thing is just absurd.

There is a reason manufacturers give you dosing guides and helps and spoons and while they are more often then not kind of off or hard to follow intentionally, dosing a tenth or even less of what they recomend is just not gonna result in any usable cleaning, really.

Good though kind of weired comparisson:
On a usual night out I drink like 5 vodka sodas to get pretty tipsy but not really gone drunk.
That is 10 shots of vodka.
If I drink just one shot nobody would agree I would be equally drunk.
If I drink twice as much nobody would agree that would be the same result.
Verry few - including me - would probably notice the difference in a range from 8-12 shots quite as exactly.

Detergent works just the same.
