Heh, ever see "Law of Desire"? It's your first and only chance to see a young (and almost supernaturally handsome) Antonio Banderas with his ankles in the air.

1987

I thought Prick Up Your Ears was very well done. Pretty sad, but, to me, seemed like a serious flick. I'm not exactly an LGBT fan - more of a movie buff.

Here's one of my favorite scenes from Trick, where Gabe gets his first taste of a gay nightclub. Doesn't take him long to get the hang of it. :-)

we saw a few years ago

Maurice, 1987 amazing cinema with early Hugh Grant
Crusing, 1980 great movie! with Al Pacino and Paul Sorvino
Sweetie, 1989 whoa ~ early film by Jane Champion
Heavenly Creatures, 1994 Kate Winslett, directed by Peter Jackson - Thanksgiving dinner was late one year while I watched this movie.
The Crying Game, 1992 a classic must
Frida, 2002 Loved it
Longtime Companion 1990, seeking a voice for AIDS

Sweetie sounds a bit like The Hanging Garden... A gay son, alcoholic father, a disturbed mother, a grandmother with end-stage Alzheimers (the family keeps her locked up), even their dog is almost blind and constantly walking into walls and tables.

It's one of a very few films I can't bring myself to watch a second time. The writer's intent was to create something that defies all attempts at categorization, and he succeeded IMO. I'd call it something between comedy and horror.

Summer Storm

For some eye candy how about:

Summer Storm: it's a german film, some very cute boys and a nice storyline about young love and coming out. Saw it a Queer film festival and liked it, even though i don't like my men that young.

'Head On!'

An Aussie movie that came out in '98. The main character is played by a local actor named Alex Dimitriades, who is straight (surprise, surprise), but acts out his role exceptionally well. This fella is very easy on the eye and the stroy line is ace. Very gritty ozzie drama. Check the linky for the trailer and a few other bits and pieces.
