The two brothers (have known them since they were kids) who live in the apartment below me have a large terrarium in their living room. They grow off-the-beaten-path mushrooms, in part as a project for David's 10-year old son who spends a few days a week with his dad. Last night David brought me a Lion's Mane mushroom. It looks a bit like a tennis ball-sized cauliflower floret. They look really interesting, but I have no experience with cooking/using them.

Anyone here know something about them or how to cook/use them?

Don't know anything about Lion's Mane Mushrooms, have never heard of them.

Since my Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, have been researching a lot on the disease. Since there is technically no cure, there is a lot of research going on now that is showing a lot of promise in slowing the progression down in patients with Alzheimer's and Lewy Body Dementia in diet heavy in mushrooms. Shitake mushrooms in particular. I fix a lot of foods with different varieties and they have had an amazing positive effect on my Dad, to my surprise, even the neighbors noticed. The effects last about 4 days in mental improvement, coupled with his medication. It's my understanding that dementia is caused by a starvation in the brain, not getting the nutrients that it needs. I'll fix about two - three meals a month heavy in mushrooms for my Dad. I have noticed they can spike my blood pressure so I don't eat them as much. Just wanted to pass this along.
