Lock Release

Hello its me. I was wondering every time I open my washer in the drainage cycle the lock on the inner tub releases and it starts spinnig early? I've noticed it on two modern washers.

Well....

Because its more then likely a neutral drain for the first minute or so.....when you open the lid it interrupts the cycle and thus releases the basket. You'd be surprised at how many people think they have a broken machine because they don't understand the concept of neutral drain.

Cole, this is normal and proper operation of the neutral drain mechanism. The neutral drain function is mechanical and is enabled/preset when the transmission runs in the direction for agitation. When the motor pauses and restarts in the reverse direction for drain, the neutral drain mechanism in the transmission allows the tranny to run in a neutral mode of neither drain nor spin. When the motor pauses and restarts again in the reverse direction, the neutral drain mechanism releases and the basket spins. The pauses are normally handled by the timer, but any two successive pauses and restarts in the reverse direction will trigger spin ... such as opening and closing the lid during drain, stopping and starting the timer, pulling and replugging the power cord, or opening the lid and then manually activating the lid switch so as to watch the machine.
