I don't know if the thermostat is bad or not in my dryer. I'm thinking that it is. All the temperatures worked in the dryer. Then the low stopped working then the medium stopped. Then high gets so hot the cabinet gets really hot to the touch...so would that be the thermostat? if so, can a Frigidaire dryers' thermostat be interchanged with another brand or is it just Frigidaire? Can a thermostat be fixed? Any info someone one could give would be appreciated. I'd like to get the dryer fixed.

Hi, that should be a filtrated dryer with a variable thermostat if it does not heat on lower, medium and overheats on high, it definitely has a bad thermostat, when I get a chance, I’ll try to look up the part number of the thermostat so you can do a search it may be hard to find.

Denny,

The hydraulic thermostat PN for the '56 Filtrator is 5432376, and was shared also on the '57. This will be a difficult part to find and may require locating a donor dryer if a spare used one doesn't pop up.

GM played with the set points on this thermostat through the production of the original Filtrator dryer. The earliest ones have the hottest set points - the 1953 TR-60 and 1955 DV-65. GM lowered the set points for the first time on the '56/'57, with the '58-'60 having the lowest. Depending on the mounting and length of the capillary tube you might be able to get away with a generic, but it would require some test fitting and calibration runs.

Thanks !

Thanks John, Ben I appreciate the input. It gives me some info where to start. I hope I can get this back in running order. It worked better than my LG. The Frigidaire dried my jeans on medium heat in about 35 minutes where my new LG is about 50-55 minutes.
