A few months ago someone started a thread about a house for sale in (I think) upstate NY. IIRC they were semi-kit home made of _______?_________. They were made in the late 40's and 50's. One picked a style of house and then picked options such as garage, basement, etc. The same idea as Levittown houses.
I think there was mention that a military base in a Mid-Atlantic state or Virginia had ordered a lot of them to be used for married service members stationed there.
They were made of steel and ??? I recall members saying that it would be difficult to hang anything on the walls and that the place would be hard to heat. I believe the linked wikipedia article mentioned that most subsequent owners added baseboard heat.
I'm pretty sure I made a post with a question/comment about the heating and added a wise-assed aside that thanks to aw.org I now had yet another topic to read/research.
Does any of this ring a bell? Could someone send me a link to this thread or give me search terms that'd allow me to find it? I've tried searching but am using the wrong terms. I tried checking "My Posts", but it apparently doesn't go back far enough.
Thanks,
Jim
