Looking for liquid detergent insert for my Miele w1918

Hello, I'm new here but have read quite a few threads over that last 3-4 years. It has been very helpful to read the posts. I am somewhat active in the laundry forum on Gardenweb/Houzz. I have 2 Miele washers, a w3033, with dryer, that I got 3-4 years ago, and a recently acquired w1918 with dryer, that I got last summer. I am very very happy with them both.

The problem I have is that I'am struggling to find an insert for liquid detergent for my W1918. I have called the Miele office and they say it is no longer available. I have been watching ebay for months and nothing. The part number is 1924250. I really would like the insert so I can use the prewash and regular wash cycles with liquid detergent.

Any ideas of where I can locate such a thing?

I just checked out the website in french. I translated it and it is the last one they have in stock. They don't ship to my address. I have emailed them to ask if they would ship to the US for me. I'll keep this thread posted.

Miele USA

Has long stopped importing parts for the W700, W1000, and W1900 series washing machines. Matching dryers may be another story as parts may have been used for several models including those produced in later series.

As such whatever stock MieleUSA had at that time was it; no further ordering from Germany which is the normal procedure when a part is out of stock. By this date pickings can be rather slim for the above mentioned washer models. Know this because have a W1070 and each time have needed parts the list grows shorter and shorter.

This being said certain parts like shock absorbers, suspension springs/mounting brackets, etc..., things that are generic to many Miele washers may still be in stock. OTOH parts specific to a model range such as motors, shipping braces, power cords, drawers/dispensers, and so forth are likely to be the most difficult to find.

Actually have one of those liquid detergent inserts for my W1070 (will work on 1900 series washers IIRC), that got NIB ages ago for a few dollars. Rarely use the thing as historically haven't used liquid detergents. Now when one does use a dosing cap that came with various detergents from Germany or France. However will not consider selling because the thing is NLA from Miele.

You have a few options. If you can locate a part in Europe, reach out to a member who lives on that side of pond and is willing to purchase on your behalf and ship.

You can also try Miele Canada or Mexico, but they are contractually bound *NOT* to sell/ship things to the USA or vice versa. So again you'd have to find someone local willing to purchase and send the part.

Finally check with Miele authorized repair servicemen and dealers (parts and appliances) in the USA. Miele many purchased parts from MieleUSA to have in their inventory for sales or service purposes. Miele does not normally take such parts back from dealers (or entire appliances either IIRC), so they have things sitting about.

Thanks laundress. I had contacted the appliance dealer that I bought the used set from but he couldn't find one in his stock. He is a busy man. He might have one somewhere, but I think his quick look at his stock was all I was going to get from him. I live in IOwa and the appliance dealer is in Chicago suburb area.

I did get an email from the French site that is linked above. The seller is willing to ship to USA. He will get me a quote. I don't know what the shipping will be like though. I also have a friend at work who is married to a German woman, and I might have access to supplies with that angle. I haven't checked that out yet. My friend did tell me to give him the part number and hed check. Just haven't done it yet.

Have ordered Miele and other European laundry appliance

Parts from various places on the other side of the Pond. Germany is probably the only country where sellers are reluctant, and one assumes that has much to do with shipping costs and or other local issues. Even then often was able to get what was wanted.

European appliance parts dealers are no different than those in USA; they just want to sell stuff on at their price, thus it makes little difference to most where the thing is going. That is if they have to go to the post office to ship something to Germany from France is isn't much effort to change that destination to USA.

When it comes to stock for older laundry appliances, again spares dealers on both sides of pond want the same thing; to get the stuff gone. As numbers of old appliances dwindle so does the need to keep inventory of spares. Thus most relish any chance to move stuff on at a profit.

Most European postal systems have the equal of USPS Priority Mail international. Thus rates are set by a max weight per certain package dimension and to several various zones. That Miele detergent drawer insert isn't very large so it shouldn't cost more than 20 Euros if that.

Paypal is widely accepted by many European spares dealers, and encourage you to use that option if available.

My part is on the way. Shipping was a bit over $20 iirc. PayPal was the payment format. Really happy. Hope I still am when I get the part, lol.

I hope it works out well for you.  I ordered one of those for my w1986 when it first went into service after the Asko's timer started acting up.  I used it a couple of times and was less than impressed.  The force of the water coming in was such that it splashed into the fabric softener area and caused the siphon to begin and dispense during the wash cycle.  I have since removed the cover from the softener area to see if it still does it but haven't actually done the experiment.  I switched to pods or powders so I don't have to worry about it.  I'll try to do an experiment in the next few days to see if removing the softener lid stopped the issue.

Got my liquid detergent insert on Monday. I am using it now for the first time. I will post results later today.

Results with first use

I used the insert yesterday for the main wash, with a prewash selected. I put the liquid detergent in the prewash area, which then just runs into the machine. I then put the insert into the main wash area and added detergent. The pictures show the detergent in the insert, while I'm holding it, lol. I actually don't load the insert first. I forgot to take a picture of the insert so removed it, not spilling the soap, then reinserted it.

I ran the load and pulled out the drawer while prewash ran. It did not interfere with the mainwash insert. Then I watched as the mainwash dispensed the detergent. It did not overflow into the fabric softener area. There are several times when the water sprays into the dispenser during the main wash cycle. It appears that it worked well. There was a full cup of water in the insert when the cycle was complete. But it was not soapy. The fabric softener remained dry during the main wash, so I don't think it would have siphoned fabric softener into the main wash, had I had any in there.

I cant thank you all enough for helping me solve this problem. I am very happy.
