Maytag Agitators~

As seen before in the previous posting of the A806S (Early) that Cory had shown a few months ago - would this agitator(s) work for the 806? One of the fins has broke off, and I would like to get a new agitator in the unit before I put her back into commission. I looked at the part lists that are online for the 806 and then PN for the agitator seemed to include the nut -

Yes it will work; although this is the "short" Power-Fin, there is no difference between the two versions as far as mounting them is concerned.

This is the shorter version for the standard capacity machines, in a large capacity (like the 806) the highest water level would be over the top of the small agitator and flood the softener dispenser. If the agitator in your 806 has no set-screw, your local appliance shop should have some replacement agitators lying about - especially in Iowa!

Gansky -

I also remember that the orginal agitator had the extra "4" fins, that look like little lumps to me. Do I have to replace it with this special one - or can I just grab one out of a regular 806? Also - how hard it is to take one out - and does this set screw have anything to do with it? Thanks for the help -

Ben

The one you saw with the 4 extra fins was the first Power-Fin design, my 906 has this. You don't need to find that exact one, in fact, the filter will work a little better with a little bit later style with a more open barrel - just above the skirt. The more open design lets more water flow through for better filtering... well, as good as it gets...

Does the agitator you have on the machine now have set screw? The set-screw came around much later in the Maytag family, I think in the '08 or '10 series. If you don't have one, look for a replacement that doesn't have the screw.

Honestly - I don't know. I would have to go over to Cory's and take a look. Just take out the filter and it will be there? I didn't really take a good look down in that area when I cleaned out the filter (orginal grime), so I don't really have a good idea what I would be looking for - if you have a photo or your insight would help out tremendously.

I was figuring that we found an A806 out at the yard that was a series 00 and hoping to move it aside before it gets crushed to grab the agitator, but I don't know how to remove it yet. Thanks for the help!

Ben

Sorry, I forgot to tell you how to remove the agitator... If it has no set screw, simply grab ahold of barrel firmly and pull up. Hopefully it will come out without too much trouble. The link is to a Maytag repair master book on ebay - these are excellent guides on most repairs for your washer.
