I have something on a far more serious note for you guys. I found out about 4 days ago that i have Systemic Lupus. I have been dealing with quitley and and comming to terms with it my self. However i still do not fully understand what it is and what it will entail for me. They have prescribed a couple more meds for me, but they have to be careful as my body doesn't like most medications, so some things like steriods and Tylanol and that kind of stuff i can't take. Also can't take predisone or cortisone, anti bodics.. Ughhh.. I was quite destraught by this at first, but now the more i think on it and deal with it, the more ok i am.. But i still am looking for people to talk to who have it and what not..
Does any one here know of any one with it or do you your'e self had it? Thanks.. I am just looking for answers.

Chad~

Wow- I am sorry to hear that! You are way too young to deal with the health issues you have been faced with.
Please know, and I am sure everyone will agree, we are here for you. As far as knowledge on Lupus, I will see what I can find out and let you know. I do know its an autoimmune disease. I would suggest reading a few medical journals or visiting MedicineNet.com..Look for Lupus on that site and it should be very informative.
Most importantly be proactive with your own healthcare. Doctors can only do so much. Duke University is in Durham I believe. Some of the best specialists in the country are in the Raleigh-Durham area
Good luck and keep us informed.
Take care
~Shane

Thanks

Yeah i am dealing with Duke med center.. Although all prior health issues are tied into this some how

Aloe Vera

I met a lady a few years ago who was virtually housebound by Lupus and having been on many drug regimes was introduced to the idea of drinking Aloe Vera. It changed her life to the point where she was able to stand up infront of 2,000 people and talk about it. May be worth trying? Track down a company called 'Forever Living' and investigate. I can vouch for it's efficacy in other areas, like IBS. Best wishes.

Chad, sorry to hear of your devastating news. If Aloe Vera looks promising, I have plants I can send to you and I can vouch for the leaves being full of juice. I accidentally stepped on one leaf that was trailing on the floor and it was absolutely gross. The gel shot out of it with the most sickening squirting, wet f**ting sound like maybe I had stepped on a big fat slug and its entrails were squirting out of one end or something.

They grow super fast outside during the summer and even do well under plant lights inside during the winter. A lot of people sell them at yard sales because they keep budding off more baby plants. Of course, since you can grow your own almost for free, I am sure that there are reasons that can't be used and you have to use only the prescription junk the medical-pharmaceutical complex sells. I am going to have to read up on this and see what else Hello Vera? is good for.

Best wishes to you and a Big Thanks to Hoovermatic for mentioning Aloe Vera.

Tom

lupus

this is a chronic (long term) rheumatic disease that affects mostly joints and muscles. It involves inflammation that can make it difficult for the body to fight off bacteria, viruses, and foriegn agents. There is nothing that they know of that causes it, it just seems to happen. Some believe that it can be inherited.

I hope you are doing well Exploder!! Take care!!

Michael

The gel shot out of it with the most sickening squirting....
HA! I never thought of this as anything but pleasant.

Chad:
Today is the first day of the rest of your life. This is an auto-immune diesease that will test your patience to no end.

Listen to your dear old auntie Toggle. Decide right here and right now that you will take care of yourself.Proper diet, meaning limited caloric intake, plenty of fruits and vegetables, limited meats and dairy. No more soda, plenty of water. You know the drill. Trust me on this one. Learn it soon rather than later. By the time one hits 40, believe you me you don't have too much of a choice. Anyhoo.........

As was referenced above, you will have to be you own health-care advocate. Today's doctors are not what they used to be. Become involved in your own healing. No one will do it for you, not even a doctor.

But the most important thing, IMNO (in my NASTY opinion) *LOL* is to have a POSTIIVE mental outlook and attitude.

Here is a cosmic truth, that we see even in Tarot cards from centuries ago:
Eveything begins with a thought.
Which leads to an emeotion.
Which leads to an action
Which leads to a result.

When a person BELIEVES they will heal and are worthy of good health they do and they are.

I send you light, love, peace and blessings. Now go forth and love yourself right back to the perfection that you are in the eyes of the Creator.

Here is a Mantra just for you:
From the lord-god of my being I bless myself and call forth into law that my wants and needs are taken care of, and I have great great abundance on all levels. I am happy, healthy, well-adjusted and secure. I have no fear and no pain. With each day that passes my health improves.

Every little thing you do now will have a cumlative effect both immediately and later on.

Remember it is always darkest before dawn. How does the song go "The only way is up........"

what little I gleaned from googling Lupus seems to indicate that systemic lupus can be caused by a reaction to some medications... I'm sure if your doctor hasn't already discussed that possibility, you could ask him or her. If that's the case, then often the symptoms disappear when the medications are discontinued. Other triggers for SLE (systemic lupus e something) can be UV light...

There also appears to be a genetic component, with most cases affecting women and Asians. But it doesn't mean guys can't get it too.

Be Vigilant

Hello Chad,

As is common with autoimmune disease, my wife went from one specialist to the next before being diagnosed with SLE, and I can say after 15 years the best hope for your long term health is knowing your body and how you should feel. Have frequent blood tests to monitor the activity (it can be measured) and do everything possible to protect your kidneys. After an extreme lupus flare affecting her heart and lungs, the damage finally stopped at those organs. Despite Harvard doctors and no expense spared in the best hospitals, there is still much to be learned. Seek out your local "SLE Foundation" and speak to a counselor. After a second kidney transplant she is essentially lupus-negative, owing of course to the anti-rejection meds which have the added benefit of supressing the immune system which was previously overactive.

Aside from her early diagnosis, I am so happy to see her in the healthiest condition since I've known her, and hope you find the best course to treat your symptoms sooner than later. Now, if I can get her to use the right amount of HE detergent in our Acclaim washer she'd be the perfect Stepford wife!

Health and happiness to you,
Mike

Thanks you guys..

YEs toggs i am trying to take care of my self.. No more smirnoff for me.. LoL.. SOdas a tad harder.. I drink water all the time.. I usualy carry a few bottles in my backpack.

My meds are well controlled..

Haven't tried the aleo vera yet, but plan too..

Yea, its rough.. Every day is diffrent.. MY biggest goal right now, is to figure my tirggers out and go from there.. I think one big thing is cold weather and my grandparents being ehre.. I am thinking of moving once again, but where i am unsure yet.. Road trip! Hehehe.. Any way, thanks for the support.. I have a long road to hoe and i can do it, i have for quite a while already.. Ughhhh..

I'm sorry you have this hurdle to deal with....I know the feeling.

Would you move due to the climate?

Yeah, i would move away.. I am really going bonkers now any way.. Its time for a change... I think elevation and baramoetric pressures have something to do with it as well

Oh GURRRRLL, I ain't no docta, but I didn't used to

Now open wide and say AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!

~Would you move due to the climate?

Another factor in relocating, should things not go as well as one would like, is that California is proabably one of the best climates and easiest in which to get disability--- G-d forbid it comes to that. The cost of living may kill you however. REASEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH!

LOL Methinks my advice is better than my dad's who STILL believes (skin-cancer and all) is that sunlight, salt-water and fresh-air cures ANYTHING!

HA! Fool of a man-- it's WINDEX that cures anything!RRRRRRRRRR!!!!! LOL ROFL LMAO.

The Smell of Windex

Is it me or do most Italians/Greek people i know love this stuff and use it by the boat load? I do!

I am probably going to take a long extended vacation sometime soon and will figure out where i need to go from there... LoL

Although i me thinks the windex theroy is better...
