If I understand Berthold right, this AEG washer/dryer combo was also manufactured by Lepper. This picture comes from an AEG brochure from 1982

Hi there Foraloysius and the other members here.
Today i talked to a former washing machine seller/repair that told me alot of things.
First. The washing machine (Nyma) i had was made by Lepper you mentioned above. There was 2 versions of the machine aviable. The cheapest one had only 500 rpm in spinspeed while the more expensive was 750 rpm. I had the cheap variant. He told me these machines were not imported here directly. Instead there were shipped to denmark, where they chanced something on them. He couldnt say what. Then they were brought to Sweden. I dont understand why, neither he.
Lepper/Matura was sold here but not under that name. According to what he said they were sold under these names: Elektro-Helios Super wash, Nyma, Wascator supermax and Singer deluxe. All machines was very good and reliable, not many broke.
Then he told some about the Zanker i posted a picture of.
They were called Zanker Program Automat and began sell here in Sweden in 1963.
It was a backsplash machine. You see on the picture it has two compartments. The big one was for the detergent while the small one was for the program record.
The programs were runned by a snall metal record that looked like a CD, only it had holes at varied sizes on it. There were 15 records aviable for the machine. You put the record in the small compartment and pressed a start button there. Then the machine runned the program that was on the record IE: boil wash, Coloureds, delicates, only spin or whatever you choosed.
The spin was about 620 rpm. If you opened the drop down door on spin the machine stopped. The regular front door under the drop down door was made in stainless steel. You couldnt see when the machine washed.
This machine was not very reliable. The motor and all that was very perfect, but there were often problems with the program records. The machines often skipped parts of the wash or such when the records become older.
The rondo machines were sold here and apparently they were very popoular in early 60´s. But then Miele and Electrolux came and took over the market pretty fast.
Another machine that was popoular here in my city was Hoover Keymatic 3224. He remebered these very well.
BBC was famous in the 70´s. They only had toploaded machines imported here.

You know the striking difference between the Euro machines and ours here is that there isn't any faux wood appliques anywhere LOL. Isn't it interesting what different paths were taken.

We didn't need washers with a faux wood decor. There were plenty double door machines that could be decorated with faux wood panels like this Constructa from 1977.

Interesting! I think you are saying those Zankers had separate discs for every programme? Would be great if somewhere there were still some discs remaining.

Apparently BBC rebadged American machines too. I guess it doesn't belong in this thread, but it's certainly an interesting twist.

Hello again!
My mum had a Matura washer-dryer combo for nealy 18 years. I persuaded her to buy this as the dryer wasn't constantly used because of the big attic my mum has to dry things with neither any cost nor energy consumption!
It was a fantastic machine! And it had the world's best turbo condens-drying system ever seen! Very fast, low energy consumption and no heat in the room as the condenser worked with cold water which also flushed away all the fluff in one go! It was once covered by patent wold-wide - but now they were bought by another company who kicked out the staff, closed down the production and took the patent for themselves!

Re: Zanker Pa Automat: Yes there were a separate disc for every program. There were 15 records aviable. 2 of them was "special" programs. They were: "only spin" and "rinse and spin". You couldnt skip the forwash or anything. Would be fun if anyone had one of these machines still working. Sadly thing was that there was many problems with the discs.
The BBC toploaders: I have seen that model in the picture and other of their collection. Apart from that toploaded dryer i,m trying to restore i have never had a toploading machine.
On the subject on the toploaded dryer. Now i know what the problem is with it. Its the heater that is faulty. Sometimes it heats so much the clothes smells burnt. Other times theres no heat at all. Also the bearings needs to be chanched.

Berthold was kind enough to send some more pictures, especially of his Matura machines. I'll start with an ad he sent me. It looks very much like the machine he owns, but is different, you can see the differences in the control panels.

Here are a few of his machines. This one is a Respekta (same as Matura) washer/dryer combo from around 1980. A special detail of this machine is the electronic sensor. No guesswork for the drying time but like a normal dryer the humidity level is measured. A feature still not found on many other washer/dryer combo's.
His parents have a Matura frontload washer, the model is an Autostatik S850, this machine is from 1983. This must be a very well built machine, it hardly had any repairs and it does about 10 loads of laundry per week since 1983!
This machine is paired with a nice Blomberg dryer, also from 1983.
A totally different machine is a Siemens toploader. It's also a washer/dryer combo. A full laundry for a small space. They used to be very popular with people with limited space. You still find this type of machine in small Parisian apartments.
