That's lovely, Greg! I love the Insta-Square™ feature, too. I'm sure I'll get a slap from Ross for this, but I have to say that with the way I iron (perhaps three times a year; four in a leap-year), the tapered end just gets in the way.

There's no reason to have an ironing board to use it...it adds to the motif of the laundry room, or is a great buffet service, especially when it's an old, heavy, stable board like that one.

You know, kind of like storing chips in the dryer, as some people do

Of course, in a similar spirit, Roger found that cakes go lovely in KitchenAid top racks, but that's a story for another time :-D

Will have a peep on my Mary Proctor board to see if it lists the maker. Those MP boards are like gold! Those that have them won't part, and everyone is looking for one! Lucky souls seem to find them at estate sales and such for give away prices. I had to duke it out on eBay for mine.

Really do like the rectangular shape of the MP boards, but found myself using the vacuum ironing table yesterday for some things, and it wasn't half bad. The suction keeping things in place/drying the ironing made up for having to reposition items a few more times because of the narrow end.

My Mom's board weighs a ton but it has nice hard emerald green rubber wheels so I can pull it everywhere. I need to change the pad though its been since I was born!

Sorry, missed your question, Tom. There are portions of the cover that will allow for the extensions to move outward. The original cover was falling apart - you can see the bits of cotton on the floor under the board, but I had another Teflon cover from a little later on that had the wide top to allow for the extensions. When I put it on, it seemed too big and ill fitting so I just used the blue one I found at the sale. I think age had taken it's toll on the elastic edges which made it loose and sloppy. I could probably make a properly sized cover fairly easily - and would rather have cotton anyway.
