Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

another "childhood" memory

I remember several of those Whirlpool washers. Most of the time all they needed was a pump or a new wig/wag solenoid. But the store didn't like them on the used sales floor because of their complex (and costly to replace) timers. A lot of the Lady Kenmores were like that too, a timer that selected everything but the water level (and sometimes that too) with a zillion wires on it. They sure were nice machines, especially when the matching dryer was traded in too.

That pink Whirlpool is unique for sure, and it seems to have all of the bells and whistles. I love how it has the Maytagesque shape to the console, and the numeric version of Kenmore alphabet dialing system. I wonder if this timer click stopped too, or was that exclusive to Kenmore. The lid handle sure is long. I am betting this is a 1960 washer, or perhaps 1959? I would not be surprised if this was the top Whirlpool that year whichever one it is.

Have a good one,
James

Skinny Minny

I am looking for a skinny minny to torture- not an agit-tub, but one of the frigidaire built things- do you have any of those laying around to give away?

70Series, yes, that RCA Whirlpool has a Lady Kenmore-esque locking timer. I remember seeing this machine at the 2002 convention and asking, as I did not know that type of timer was ever used on Whirlpool branded machines. Funny how automatic washing was so automatic 50 years ago, and now you have to make all the decisions yourself! Sigh.

I'm pretty sure a Mark VII would have been their top of line, and it looks like they introduced the self cleaning style filter later than Kenmore.

Thanks Scott:

I agree. It seems like features on today's washers are not what they were on those of yesteryear. Good thing this club exists.

Have a good one,
James
