Maude and the dishwasher repairman

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I guess it was part of the script to prove a point.....

but in reality of the show, wasn't Walter a Maytag Dealer?.....

had his own store and everything.......and for the time frame of the 60-70's, it was all about service and sales.....

so why didn't Walter have one of his own guys there to service it.....in fact, there wouldn't have been no charge at all.....

and besides, Walter could have had a new dishwasher installed in no time....

still one of the best shows for a good laugh

It would make more sense. But was Walter known to be a Maytag dealer yet? This episode was from ALL IN THE FAMILY, and it was done at the end of the season just before the season MAUDE launched. I'm not an expert, but I suspect they were planning on MAUDE, but hadn't fully finished coming up with all the details.

Yes, Walter did own an appliance store.  In one episode there was mention of a vagrant  relieving himself in a "spin drier", on display in the store.   I don't remember if it was a way of  tackling  homeless issues in the 1970's.   Maude had  "Florida" and "Ms. Naugatuck" (sp.),  I don't see her  being interested in appliances, in the new era of Women's Lib.  All the "Bunker" spin off's took on many stereotypes.

Thanks for posting this, LK.

"Findlay's Friendly Appliances"...

That was the name of the appliance business Walter owned. Not sure if he was Maytag or not.

I remember one scene where Walter was sucking up to some holy rollers to get their business and Maude was pissed about his hypocrisy.

As only Bea Arthur could do, she got him kneeling on the staircase to pray.....

"Jesus saves..... AT FINDLAY'S FRIENDLY APPLIANCES!"

that WAS a great show.

I almost have to think Walter's store would have been just Findlay's Appliances. Unless, of course, Maytag was willing to pay for product placement....

Ma was a big fan of "Maude,"

I was a fan, too, but not as devotedly. I do remember Maytag being mentioned several times a season, but at the time the show aired, Maytag did not have a complete line, just their strength, laundry, dishwashers, and disposers.

The episode I remember most clearly was one where Walter and Maude were at a dealer's convention, and Maude's badge read "Mrs. Walter Findlay," instead of "Maude Findlay."

I remember being utterly dismayed at those MOL Coppertone appliances.
