Maximum Water Level - Proper Rinsing in a Miele W4840

That is good water level. Similar to my 2004 Maytag Neptune.

logixx thats video is on the delicate cycle. Not a normal water level for a normal cycle.Most of the time one cannot see the water level since its at the rim of the drum.

Indeed it's not the normal level - it's the high level that can be selected via the programming mode. Quote from the service manual:

Max. water level
Adjustment of the laundry process for soft water areas.
Level III at rinse cycle.

So many (if not all) newer front load washers do not use enough water to rinse, and clothes retain too much detergent and/or fabric softener. The water level during the rinses is about 2-3 inches up on the glass door. Before I had the rinses set to Water+...you could not even see a water level during the rinse cycles. Miele makes amazing appliances, and are built like tanks!!"

Hi Alex. So...You are able to get the Model 4840 in Germany? I guess it is 240V?

I have been having a lot of problems with my LG, leaking, stopping, but only intermittent. My appliance store is willing to give me a gift card to replace it, but I was not sure of which one to get because of all the low water levels. I am looking at the the newer models, the 4842, so I am wondering if these can be adjusted also? This is really great.

I bet you really like the way the machines washes and rinses?

No, unfortunately not. I don't know if Miele will ever sell these in Germany. The video is from the USA.

Hey Alex. Thanks so much. So. I am guessing that you only can get the European made Miele's in Germany.

I have an AEG Bella Lavamat from 1991. It is in the garaage for now. It ran on 240V. Did a boil wash. Great machine, 4 rinses, and the water came up half way on the window. However, the tube was small back then. I have to get in it operation again. Thanks so much for the information on the 4840.

Ray, don't ever scrap it. Today models (those with the detergent drawer on left) are fake Lavamats

Believe me, those loads in the W4840 cotton cycle vids aren't a true full load even for your Lavamat.
That's ok for delicates/permapress in such a big cylinder, but a cotton cycle can really fit more than double of that.

Yes, only Euro-Mieles in Europe.

Many manufacturers tried to sell their large-capacity washer over here in GER but they all failed. Bosch and LG sold 20 lbs. washers - but they have disappeared from their German websites a long time ago. They just don't seem to sell. And if you're looking for matching dryers - forget it. Samsung currently sells a super-capacity washer and so does Bauknecht (Whirlpool) - we'll see how well they do.

It's a different story in other countries, though. Bosch UK still has the large washer online and Italy just got the Affinity. I wouldn't mind getting one of these large washers: we would just do laundry every other week instead of every week. But the rest of Germany seems to think differently, I guess.

Interestingly, however, the manual for the 4800/4840 also mentions that there are country modes for Australia, Sweden and Europe - maybe there is hope?

Hi Favorit... In 1991 I paid $1000.00 for the machine and this was what the store paid for it, because they wanted to clear out their inventory. The drawer is on the right. I do not plan on getting rid of the machine. However, I have to have another breaker added, because I used this one when I was remodeling the kitchen. It is a very nice machine. I do like the high water rinse. But, as for my main machine, I think I will go for the Miele, 4842, which is their new model , and have it programmed to add more water to the rinse. The AEG OKO Lavamat is a great machine, but it is small and just took too long to do the laundry. Americans do not like to do laundry every day. lol

I think I still have the brochure and I will scan and post out here.

There maybe modes for Australia, but they stopped selling them here about 12m ago....seems we don't like them either. Probably because they were very expensive.

11 months ago I was at 'The Appliance Gallery' here and they had one. I ooooed and ahhhhed over it until the price nearly knocked me off my feet...

Yeah, I tried the press releases all the way back to 2007 but there is nothing in there. Entering something along the lines of W4840 only brings up the "No matches found" message. Tried to google something - again, no luck. :-/

Miele outlet store in Canada

Hi Chris,
checking prices in Miele Galleries can lead to heart attacks *LOL*

I checked on epinion.com : up there the W4840 is about 200 USD cheaper than the W3033

Now i'm on the hunt for a DW for my aunt. Found a G1022 on sale for 460 euro !! It's a miracle. Now the downside : it had also a sticker telling "SOLD OUT"

Anyway I found on THS appliances forum Miele Canada has an outlet store where end of line floor models , scratched / dented items are sold. Is there such a thing somewhere in Europe ?

Hi Ron,

We never got the Big 4XXX series here, the 4XXX series we had was visually the same, but the standard 60cm x 60cm cabinet

My W2888 has AU, US, EU, and Sweden programming in its little brain, the country settings are built into each machine regardless of whether it exists in the target market or not.

Mine also has 5kg, 6kg, 7kg and 8kg drum size settings even though anything bigger than 6kg has not been available in this target Market.

The computer software is market independant and is just configured as per each install it would seem.

...So I'm both right, in that we did have a model 4xxx, and wrong in that it wasn't what I and others thought it was....

Damn Miele and their model numbers!
