Well ... Don and I sure had a great time! We had fun visiting and Don is the ultimate host ... even without ELECTRICITY!! The Twin Cities had a big storm on Friday night and knocked out Don's power until almost noon on Saturday. We didn't need electricity to do some of the restoration work, so it worked out fine.
It was EXTREMELY humid and windy on Saturday; I'm surprised we were able to get the painting done. The humidity in Foley was 91% when I got home; it was close to that at Don's, too. We were putting "Maxine" back together and the paint was still sticky. We still need to do some more touch-ups and a couple of mechanical things, but Don should be able to use his Maytag for now. What's left to do can be done at a later time.
Don's Mom took care of her Maytag, so it made things easier for us. The fire that he was talking about left its mark, however. After removing the tub, we discovered soot on the underside of the tub and on the top of the motor; it all cleaned up well!!
Did you all like the interior shot of the machine with the tub removed? That's Don's work ... he scrubbed and brushed and painted ... it came out so well. Don also removed each caster, cleaned the wheels and oiled them well and painted the leg extensions!! I think Don realized how simple these machines were to work on. Fortunately, we had no major mechanical problems.
GOOD JOB, DON!! He loves detailing; that's a big thing with working on these machines. Now, he will be able to care for this machine through the years.
Don's Mom, Maxine, may not be "physically" with us anymore, but she was with us on Saturday!! I think she helped stave off the rain ... it was POURING when I was driving home!!
What did your Dad think of all of this Don? Did they purchase this machine at Warner-Stallion (?) like you thought?
Thanks for the fun ...
Geoff
