Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The Deluxe agitator just doesn't look right in a wringer! And where are the heaping suds? You'll have cleaning failure without them, you know!

So the Gray Ghost didn't need any work to get running?

Ok, maybe an ignorant question

Would this be a good type of machine to do auto towels with?

I just thought of this seeing the unit outdoors. Wheels turning in my head. It is a hassle bringing the outdoor towels in and finding a break in the washloads to do the outside towels. Something like this could be kept in my shed and pulled out to do towel duty...wring them out then let them airdry in the yard.

Better still, how about adding into the mix one of those ancient, retractable clotheslines! I remember my mom had one, had not thought of it for years. There was a
"T" pole in the yard, and this metal tubular case mounted on an opposing wall. You pulled a bar out of it and attached to the bar was four clothes lines. You dragged it over and hung in on the horizontal part of the "T". When done, there was a release handle on it you pulled and the whole thing spring fed back into the case. Temporary, safe full clothes line.

Wash cars, clean towels, dry all in one day. Hmmmm.

Is anyone using these old Maytags in such an application?

Kevin, these machines were fixtures in many full service car washes, so I'm guessing the answer would be yes.

The other good news is, you can still buy those retractable clotheslines. My mom has one. Just be careful when you're retracting. You could lose limbs if you weren't careful, LOL!

Well, Don ... I bet your Mom was right with you yesterday!! Did you feel her nudge to do it the right way?? :-) I love it that you used your Porta-Washer and the A to rinse; how fun!! Getting to use your toys on such a beautiful day ... OUTSIDE NO LESS!! My little 1963 N and my A are now in my garage; you have given me an idea!! You have great privacy and your patio is so pleasant to be on; I'd be washing out there all of the time in the summer :-).

What did you think of the lint filter agitator? Nothing special, huh? I've used it to wash blankets and it did pick up some of the lint, but not that terrific. I wonder what Maytag's reasoning was for putting those in SOME of the early 1960's Model E's? Maybe it was more of a selling tool ... make it compare more to the automatic.

Looks like you had a terrific wash day!

Geoff
