check ebay...you most likely just need that little motor on the back of the timer....
one member got one, and selected the one with the metal gears instead of plastic

The timer is still available.
I work for an appliance parts store. I can still get that timer from Whirlpool (they bought Maytag in 2006). Call my store (513) 221-1195 between 8-5 weekdays and ask for Dave if you'd like to order one and have it shipped to you. It would be $118.59 plus tax and shipping.
You could probably find one online cheaper, but this option is what I can offer.
