Maytag A510 care and use

The house we're preparing to move into was very well cared for despite the last redecorating having been done in the 50s. The washing machine is a 1983 Maytag A510.

I have not had the opportunity to test it yet, but it appears nearly flawless to my ignorant eye, and I imagine it's been maintained well based on the rest of the house. I'm looking for a user manual so I can take care of it, figure out detergent amount, etc.

I have had the same 511 as the 510 is without the bleach dispenser. I have bought one $28 motor pulley and has worked like new since bought new in 1984. I will never get rid of this real Maytag.

First thing I'd do is try removing the agitator, should pull straight up if there is no set screw on the side.

They can be tough to get off sometimes, if you do lube the agitator shaft with vaseline so it doesn't get stuck in the future. Also, check the lint filter in the agitator, some people never clean them.
