Hello to everyone. Glad to find I'm not the only one who loves the Maytag A606. My washer is leaking oil from the bottom and it doesn't appear to be advancing as it should through the cycles. Well, yesterday it very slowly went through ALL of the cycles until I put it on spin and shut it off. I've purchased the Tub Bearing Kit (204013) and the Mounting Stem Kit (204012) but forgot to order the Spanner wrench. It would be great if I knew of someone here in central MA who has the wrench but I don't. Besides the spanner wrench, will I need any kind of special adhesive or grease to complete this project? There's a small hole on the side of the agitator. Does an allen wrench go in there to loosen/remove it? If so, what size. Also, someone on this forum mentioned she was in possession of a factory service manual for the A606. I'm sure it would come in handy if it's not too much trouble. Anyone have any other tips for completing this repair? Thanks for the help.

Cheers, John

Oil Leak

First of all, you thread is too complex and encompassing to answer in one posting. You're going to have to do your homework. Use the "Super Searchalator", click "Imperial" and type key words or phrases into the "Search Text" field. Also, in the "archives", look for thread # 25520 and 22830 and scroll down to "First things first". One thing will lead to another.

If your washer is an A606 and it has a set screw in the agitator, it's the wrong agitator. There is an air vent hole further down on the skirt of the 606 agitator, but there's no set screw in there.

FYI. Paying members get more attention. It's a small price to pay for a wealth of information.

Good luck.

Well, for what it's worth...I took the front panel off last night and there isn't even a speck of loose oil visible. Something tells me though that it's probably not good news.

First, Welcome to the club.

I have the nut wrench and am only in Melrose if you'd like to borrow it.  As for the oil leak, Kenny is right if its coming down the stem then its a complete disassembly, which isn't the end of the world but also is not a weekend project. Only you can decide how far you want to go. Some machines have taken me 2 years on weekends to bring back some have taken one day,its the nature of our hobby.
