I live in a college town, in an old, 8 bedroom house with 9 other girls. One of our two washing machines is a Maytag A606, and up until this point it has worked wonderfully. Currently the Machine is full of water, and will not drain at all. I noticed it having problems last night when the load finished and there were about 2 inches of water in the bottom of the drum. Like any poor college student I hoped it was a fluke, and ran the load again. When I went to remove my clothes this morning, the running light was on, and the knob was stuck between the end of the rinse cycle and "off." Now there is an extra 6 inches of water in the drum. Help!!!

light still on

light on and timer stuck on drain, not moving to off, tells me it's a timer problem. Try another cycle, perma press or soak, anything, to see if it moves thru that entire cycle. If other cycles work perfectly and only on this cycle does water remain, it's pretty surely the timer.
Another test----in this bad cycle---when the first wash water is pumped out and the clothes are spray rinsed and spun some more then everything stops to fill for the rinse, open the lid to see if there's inches of standing water or not. If you open really quickly, there won't be time for the rinse fill to confuse you, there shouldn't be standing water inside. This will prove that the pumpout and drain hose are fine, the problem is the timer at the very end of the cycle.

It also never hurts to follow the hose from the back of the machine to the drain pipe or drain tub, no kinks allowed.

Let us know, and take a picture of the timer. Good luck

And don't apologize for being a poor college student, you'll remember these times fondly--I do.
