remove the top half of the trans

Servicing the trans in place is not the way to do it, as can be seen from mess Tazz has already.

Once the outer tub is off the trans can be removed easily by titling the machine back and removing the lug screw and pulley.

I'm not real worried about the mess as I'm doing a complete rebuild but you are correct. I really wasn't expecting that much fluid in there either, talk about being over filled.

You can remove the trans and leave the brake package in place? Thats good to know.

Water in the trans oil would account for the overfilled condition.

Still trying to find a transmission. After I cleaned up everything both sets of bearings for both shafts are pretty well used up. I'll post up some pics soon....
