Maytag A712 Is Dying

The wash or rinse cycles are not agitating. The washbasket is spinning instead without draining. The spin drain cycles hesitate at the start to slow spins then pick up speed. The tub no longer locks in place during the wash. The spins are coasting to complete stops.

Check the stop lug, screw, and washer. Something down there may have loosened up or broke.

 

Also, verify the motor pulley isn't slipping by twisting the pump/transmission pulleys in opposite directions.

Thanks Dan, here are pics of what the tip of the transmission end...the stop lug...washer and screw look like. If I can repair it tonight I will.

Was the stop, washer, and screw all in place and properly adjusted? They look pretty rusted up. Make sure to apply some grease on these parts and a little inside the rubber cap before reinstalling it.

They all were in place...had to pry everything loose...not a struggle...all seemly was in place but, I could turn and spin the transmission (washtub) both ways

Also, Dan is it possible to get two different agitators permanently attached together? If so, do you have any idea where to go? I have an idea

Hey Dan the transmission pulley is rusted to the lower drive shaft...cannot remove trans pulley

Stuck washer and screw shouldn't be a problem. The transmission pulley spins counterclockwise off of the lower helical shaft. There maybe some corrosion hanging things up. You can try spraying penetrating oil around that area and letting it soak overnight.

Are you trying to attach the bottom skirts together?

Actually, I'd like to attach an upper agitator column to a lower agitator skirt. If it can be done, I'll create something that should have been done.

Get someone hold the agitator from moving and force the pulley off counterclockwise.

Alrighty...what do you say about the agitator? Is it possible?...how soon can I get made?

Unfortunately, the rust in the transmission pulley is refusing to release the drive shaft...although, saturated with 3 different penetrating spray oils

Have you tried Kroil? Its the best stuff on the planet to loosen frozen parts. Also try taking a small wooden block and tapping one of the spokes of the pulley with a hammer to spin it off the shaft
