A island cottage workhorse in the deep Canadian woods has stopped agitating

Here is what I know

1. After the tub fills, the timer clicks to wash and the motor has a low hum but does not agitate

2. The lid switch has a nice click to it but I have not done a meter test

3. Belts are good

4. Using a test cord the motor both agitates and spins vigorously when wired in the correct pattern.

What are member thoughts?

Lid switch? Wash cycle switch? Timer? Something else?

Getting parts usually means two round trips to the city …one to order and one to pick up. Would really like to get it right the first time. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi, I'm no expert by any means but I also have a Maytag (you can see it in my earlier posts) when I first got it the same issue was happening. The lid switch is decieving as it clicks twice. On mine I pushed the plunger part at the back centre of the lid further in with my finger when the lid was closed and it kicked into action. If this works unplug everything and remove the control panel (it just tilts forward after removing the screws) inside somewhere behind the plunger arrangement there is a switch held in place with two screws. You should be able to loosen the screws and move the switch assembly forward to make better contact. You'll notice then that the lid clicks twice, once when the plunger engages and again when the switch engages (usually only allows you to open the lid about an inch before it stops agitating or spinning. As you say, it will fill fine but just won't do anything else.

Might not be the case but worked for me. Good luck 👍
