Hi everyone

I might buy a Maytag A806 washer (in "visually" good condition)
I asked if the panel lights up when washing
the guy said he was not aware it should!! (he got it 5 years ago from a reseller)
does anyone know if it easy to fix/repair or change the lights inside the panel?
and is normal the the washer is only 25" wide (the dryer is 28")
are there different models/sizes or dryers?

thanks for the info

Yanie

Hi Yanie.

The lights are easy to change it could be the lamp the starter or both. These components are redly available at any hardware store, and we can help you with the installation. Depending on which generation of A806 you have, (series 1 or series 2) the correct dryer would be either the DE806 or DE808 electric, or DG806 or DG808 gas. Is the base of the washer's console blue or gold? If its blue you want the 806 dryer, if its gold you want the 808 dryer. I hope you get this set, they are great machines and will last you many years.

Good luck!

Yes to all!

Yanie,

This is a great washer to own. The panel should light up as soon as the machine is turned on. There should be a tub light as well that lights up when the lid is opened.

If the light doesn't come on, the starter might need replacing or the bulb itself, both readily available and fairly simple to do.

The size of the machine is correct too. The differences in dryer size would be the doors and interior capacity, however the cabinet sizes should be the same. I'm not an expert so someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

This is a great all around machine and very dependable with most parts available to keep it going for a long time. You won't be sorry. (Even though my heart belongs to Frigidaire!)

Brian- This was the only pic I had to post while at work, otherwise I would have posted a better one after the machine was cleaned up. I have always admired your matching set. They look brand new.

I do not have the right matching dryer for this washer. It is harvest gold but is a DE408 with the gold panel, not blue. My washer does have the chrome strip in front and it does also have the bleach injector tank inside on the right. It is a great machine. HOWEVER... Just recently the agitator shaft has become disconnected or broken from inside the gears on transmission. The whole shaft wants to drop right out of the bottom of the machine as it's not connected to the gears any longer. I'm thinking the pin holding it in place has sheared off.

My question to you is: about how much did you pay to have your transmission rebuilt when it locked up?

I was going to switch cabinets with another machine but there are too many differences and this machine itself is in very good shape so am leaning toward having the machine rebuilt.

Anyone else with recommendations please feel free to share your advice.

thanks, Patrick
